Hunger Games Casting So Far

Hunger Games casting is well underway with a few of the cast already pegged, and more announced all the time.

First we have Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

Liam Hemsworth is Gale Hawthorne and Josh Hutcherson is Peeta Millark

And the District 11 kids are now named too. Dayo Okeniyi is Thresh and Amandla Stenberg will be Rue

This of course set of a tidal wave of “toldya so’s” from Hunger Games fanfreaks who seem to insist that Rue was black despite the books saying her skin was dark from spending time in the sun. This casting doesn’t “prove” that she was black, but the kid is cute. So much of the story’s heart depends on how Rue works with Katniss, so we will see how this girl pulls it off.

Leven Rambin will play Glimmer, and Jack Quaid (son of Dennis) will play Marvel – the two privileged kids from the wealthy District 1

Elizabeth Banks is expected to take on the role of the fashionista airhead Effie Trinket

And now John C Reilly could be the surly drunk former Games Champion from District 12 – Haymitch Abernathy as Vulture says the offer is coming:

we’re told it will be the Oscar-nominated Reilly who’ll be soon be getting the offer to play Haymitch Abernathy in the forthcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games at Lionsgate Films.

Lionsgate has a Hunger Games movie page up that has an ongoing map of the Tribute casting.

Shaping up pretty good so far. I have no complaints.

  1. Hi,
This is great. The Hunger Games has been my summer reading for two years now. I am truly hoping the  Hunger Games movie  will be as good as the books. I am most interested in seeing the costumes designed by Cinna. Thanks for sharing this post.

  2. Word on the street is that John C Reilly will not be offered the role of Haymitch…

I would like to see the guy who played the Train Man in the Matrix:Revolutions, to play Haymitch.
