Fox Wants Glee Creator to Direct Rocky Horror Picture Remake

Fox is going ahead with their plans to remake the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and now very timely as Glee is planning an all Rocky Horror themed episode, the show’s creator Ryan Murphy is being considered to direct the big screen Remake.

Geeks of Doom reports:

The studio’s interest in Murphy should be no surprise, as he’s just completed a Halloween-theme episode of the Fox television series Glee in which the gang does a performance of Rocky Horror, the long-running horror-scifi musical celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.

So far, the Glee episode does look like a lot of fun, and Ryan Murphy’s success with the show is a qualified success in the area of musicals.

And while it might not be a popular opinion. I think they COULD remake the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but that’s not to say they should.

They might be better off to just create a whole new gothic dark comedy musical instead. Only about half of the music from Rocky Horror Picture show is memorable, and its popularity has more to do with the cult following and experience than the film itself.

I would be REALLY curious to see a remade Rocky Horror Picture Show, but the purists will say to leave it alone.

But if you are going to remake a musical, you might as well get someone who has had raving success with a musical show to do it. No word on if they want to include any of the Glee stars in the Remake’s roles.

Hell, Meat Loaf can still reprise his role as Eddie.

  1. I guess I’m a purist. Leave it alone. RHPS lives a perfectly good life as a dirty little movie theatre secret, create something new. Create the RHPS for a new generation, not re live the past. Clinging to the past is never good.

    “Don’t dream it. Be it.”

  2. I don’t know about this. As pointed out, the film’s cult status is better marked by the fans who once attended midnight screenings, brought the knick-knacks and dressed up. It still had high camp hilarity. Normally, I’d say it’s time to do The Time Warp again.

    (I’m shocked Rodney-you didn’t say that!! It’s too right!)

I’m NOT the biggest Glee fan. That’s part of my inner skeptic. Besides, didn’t those MTV misfits take a dabble at a remake a few years ago? Must have been the Shock Treatment (I know, I know. I’m bad…)

All I can say is, I want Lady Gaga as Magenta!

    I know…I know… I’m b-
