Taylor Kitsch joins Peter Berg’s Battleship

Peter Berg’s adaptation of the classic strategy board game Battleship has added Taylor Kitsch to the roster as a Naval commander who has a Battleship that will inevitably be sunk.

Screen Crave shares:

Kitsch has been hired as the lead in Peter Berg’s big screen adaptation of the Hasbro board game. He’ll play a Naval commander named Alex Hopper, described as “wildly spirited” and “a great seaman but a lousy politician.” Before he came along plenty of actors were rumored to be attached to this project including The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner and at one point Robert Pattinson.

At first I thought adapting these plot free properties from the recesses of our memories was a dumb idea, but honestly they get to take some nameless script and attach it to a popular brand you knew as a kid and monopolize on it.

Its like doing a remake where no one knows the story. You get the free publicity from name dropping the property, and you get a fresh new idea on the market that wasn’t there before.

So while we know very little aside from the basic premise (there will be a Battleship Fleet) and for a blindside left hook, the Battleship fleet will have to face off against Aliens!!

I didn’t make up that last part.
