Carl Rinsch to Direct 47 Ronin

Keanu Reeves will be working his digitally aquired Kung Fu in a different type of action film as Carl Rinsch (the guy who was supposed to do the Alien Prequel) has been signed on to direct 47 Ronin.

FilmDrunk says:

Actioner “47 Ronin” tells the famous fact-based story of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan. The Chris Morgan (”Wanted”) script was tailored so that the half-Asian Reeves can play one of the swordsmen. The picture mixes the fantastical elements of films like “The Lord of the Rings” with battle scenes of the sort found in “Gladiator” and “300.”

I think that one day Keanu Reeves will show us why he keeps getting films. I know everyone will talk about his wooden acting or making clever comparisons to a tree branch or stump of wood. But thats so 2008.

Instead we will just make presumptions about his mediocre acting skills and throw blind optimism to the wind. It will then sound like this:

This is the role we have all been dying to see Keanu in. This will be guaranteed to top Tom Cruise’s heartfelt Samurai epic and deliver action and sensitivity to the genre. Good on ya Keanu. I look forward to it.

Other than that, I have nothing. No expectations, which might put me in a position to be surprised with this film. And now that it has a commercial director attached, I can only hope that he gets as much blind optimism that Neill Blomkamp got and maybe he will churn out a film just as good.

  1. He’s got his moments I agree. but seems like he’s either stoned on set or medicated in some way on those less than good roles.

anybody catch Day the earth stood still.

well Keanu stayed pretty still in that one.

    1. I loved the original so much and I never got to see the remake of Day the Earth Stood Still actually. The original had such amazing dialogue, message, and overall tension/excitement without the major battles or catastrophe scenes (like the new one showed to have) and to me, it seemed out of place to push it over the boundary. Hence, why I never saw it. I’ll get around to it eventually…I guess?
