Bourne 4 To Shoot Next Year?

I’m not a huge fan of the Bourne Identity franchise, but I’ve got to admit I really loved that last one and was very happy when I heard that they decided another film in the franchise was a good idea. It looks like things are still moving forward with plans for a fourth Bourne movie as producer Frank Marshall says they may be ready to shoot the movie next year.

The good folks over at Dark Horizons give us this:

“We’d like to shoot next year. It’s trying to get everybody’s schedules in the right place and getting the script right. We’ve done pretty well with these scripts that are pretty loosely put together, but I’d like the script to be really solid this time before we go forward. We’re spending a lot of time on this story” says Marshall.

It’s good that they’re taking their time, and I’d imagine trying to line Matt Damon up for stuff is a tricky thing to work out schedule wise. It’s worth it. If they can make the next film as good (or even almost as good) as the last film it’ll be one hell of a movie.

Yes, the Bourne story is played out… but with a super agent character, you never really run out of possible stories do you?

  1. First one was the best. Second was ok and third not so much. Hopefully the 4 th will be good but nothing beats an original . Sequels in most movies tend to suck.

  2. this is the american james bond, i just like the story it has. a government training a soldier to become the ultimate and best of the best assassion. then the government’s very best goes missing and the very best is out for revenage.
    :)

  3. There are a few more ‘Bourne’ books out there they could use. All great stories. Eric Van Lustbader (great name) took over writing duties from Robert Ludlum after he passed on. Some great stories, and ones I’d love to see adapted into a movie.

Loved the trilogy and will look forward to seeing this one.

    1. First three movie had nothing to do with the stories of the first three books other than an amnesiac and Treadstone, and the use of Treadstone was changed quite a bit. They could bring in the actual stories of the original three books. I’d love to see Matt Damon taking on the world’s number one assassin credited to such kills as JFK.

  4. I LOVE the Bourne series, smart, gritty action thrillers…whats not to like. I admit the overuse of the shaky cam in the second film irked me a little, but the first and last film was fine in that regard.

If they are going to continue this franchise it had better be because they have a great script that they cant say no to. If its anything less than the third film, they shouldnt bother.

As a side note, I think this franchise is what hekped bring us Casino Royale. The Bourne series is everything Bond should have been since Goldeneye. I think soebody realized that and took a cue. My personal opinion with no foundational evidence mind you.

  5. Shaky-cam and quick edits are a real pet peeve of mine. I hate scenes that have a lot of action, but you can’t tell what the action is because the frame is moving so much.

Oddly, however, the only two movies that get a free pass from me on shaky-cam are Bourne Supremacy & Bourne Ultimatum. Only a couple times in each does shaky-cam go *too* far. For most of each of those two movies, I actually feel shaky-cam and quick edits are used effectively and — not positive this is the best word for it — artistically.

Anyone who wants to use shaky-cam in their films, such as the director of Quantum of Solace, should seriously take lessons from Paul Greengrass. He knows how to use the technique to add a kinetic feel to the picture, instead of hiding the action behind flashes, jerks, and blurs.

Oh, and overall, excited to hear there will be a 4th Bourne movie. :)

  6. I am a fan of the movies, and look forward to the next one… BUT! I do hope some time in my lifetime somebody does a remake that adapts the stories from the books. Love the movies, but the stories in the books are pretty awesome. Specifically the stories of the first and third book.

  7. how can someone not be a fan of the Bourne franchise but still love the last one? in my opinion, the Bourne series is probably the best series of straight-forward espianoge/action films made thus far. so much so that even the Bond franchise took a few pages from their book.

    this fourth will be fantastic.

    1. Exactly.Bourne has set the standard in my book for almost all the latest spy/agent type movies.definitely bond with the shaky fight sequence an the parkour/free running scenes.an every movie that’s released these days feels the need to say their movie is better than Bourne or move over bourne.(taken,traitor).

    2. To be honest I think the Bourne series revitalised the genre for the better.

You mentioned Bond, I actually liked Pearce Brosnan in the role, but after Bourne we got Daniel Craig and a complete revamp of the whole Bond image. Casino Royale was like a shot of adrenaline, great stuff.

      So thank you Jason Bourne.

  8. To those of you who were bothered by the shaky cam in the Bourne series: Do you still feel that way after repeat viewings on a TV screen? I’m curious because the only time it bothers me is when I’m watching a movie in a theater because the screen is so big that the shaky effect becomes way too distracting.

    1. I hope not, I found that aspect very annoying. You can’t see a damn thing, I thought the fight sequence’s in the first Bourne were good, you could watch them and see all the action.

So please, put the camera on a steadicam mount or something, having it shaking all over the place does not make it exciting or arty just irritating.
