Star Trek Monster Image

One of the running jokes about the Star Trek universe is that 99% of all alien species are just Caucasian dudes with either ridges on their noses, a bump or two on their foreheads, maybe a pointed ear, or perhaps just an antenna connected to their heads. “What? You need a new Alien race for the next episode??? Ummm… here. Stick this big blue dot sticker on the actor’s chin and ummm… call him… a Phlygarian. Genius!”

With the new film rapidly approaching some artwork of a monster from the movie has come out. As pointed out by our friends over at Latino Review, the monster was designed by “Neville Page, who was responsible for the Cloverfield baddies and is currently working on James Cameron’s Avatar”. But man… this thing looks stupid as hell.

On the positive side, at least this monster looks “different”, which isa refreshing change from the average Star Trek alien or monster (it’s a cat with purple stripes… no… is a Gramasion War Beast!!!!). But still… different or not… it looks lame.

  1. Weird. It’s like an alien flower monster. I like it. True I would like it to be better, but still not bad.

I think the reason I like it is that it retains the cheesiness of old school sci-fi aliens and monsters, like the original Star Trek series. But at the same time has a mondoren monster freakishness to it.

I just hope we get to see it eat something or someone in the movie with that huge mouth it has.

  2. I think that what they are going for here is something that actually looks alien, and not necessarily what looks “good” or “cool”. I think that they acheived their goal by having something that doesn’t look like any other creature that’s ever been featured on Star Trek. I think it’s a great step in the right direction for the re-imagined Trek.

  3. I can’t tell what it is, where is the head? is the blue thing supposed to be the head? if it is, where are the eyes and mouth? I am completely lost.

  4. i don’t see how you can judge this monster from this still??
you can barely make it out. Its a screen grab of the monster right in the middle of moving…..hardly a nice clear shot to make any kind of judgement on.

sounds like someone just looking to be negative if you ask me.

    1. Exactly my thoughts… I can’t tell crap about the monster from that pic. That pic could be of an orchid or my bearded dragon. Maybe it’s my bearded dragon dressed up as an orchid for halloween.

Like a lot of pron, just not a good angle…

  5. It looks like what I’ve seen based on the trailers and toys…lousy design with no sense of logic. The Phasers and communicators look like cheap toys, the enterprise looks like it’s shouldn’t fly and we are talking about space here where almost anything can fly, and the bridge looks like the apple store on steroids. And why are the women wearing skirts? Are we really back in the 60’s?? The uniforms look like what Aquaman wears in the comics…what’s with the scales?

I hope this movie is good not some trek mixed with Transformers nonsense. I really think Star Trek needed some new blood but if it happens to be nonsensical, cliche, cheap blood…well yo can kiss this franchise away for awhile.

  6. I think it looks like the bugs from Roughnecks. And John, this is just a picture, not even a good one, wait until May 8 and marvel in it’s goodness.

    1. Are you talking about the Boss monster you fight in the river and you use the battle boat guns to shoot it up? If it is, then yea it does sorta look like it.

  7. whats wrong with it john? … Do you not like it cause it looks differant then what u wanted? I think it looks cool and it looks like a pissed off creature.

    1. and that is why its called concept art!

      they will either

      a) lose the legs, arms, and give it a recolor to what ever world it is on that way it will match at least.

      or

      b) scrap the idea

  8. IMHO, that is one of the reasons that Star Wars was so popular in 1977. The Cantina showed the multitude of races of aliens, and many of us who collected the toys or read the books wanted to know more about them…
