Paul Giamatti is a very interesting character. Before he exploded onto the scene as a legitimate A-list leading actor with his fantastic performance in “Sideways” (a performance that many people feel he was jilted out of a Best Actor nomination for) he was one of Hollywood’s most recognizable (even if you had no idea what his actual name was) character actors. You know… he’s the guy who was in that movie.
Since Sideways, we’ve all come to appreciate how much talent the man has, and soon he’ll be appearing in the movie adaptation of Mordechai Richler’s “Barney’s Version“.
The folks over at Cinematical give us this:
The project, which will be helmed by Richard J. Lewis (CSI director), follows a hard-drinking rascally man named Barney Panofsky who decides to write “the true story of my wasted life,” from adventures in 1950s Paris, to money earned through a TV company called Totally Unnecessary Productions, to three different wives. But ithe tale is unreliable, and footnoted with corrections from his son.
I’ll confess I’ve never read the book itself, so I went and did a little reading about it before putting up the post… and I’ve got to say from what I can tell, this sounds like a fantastic idea for a film, and Giamatti certainly sounds great for it.
Have any of you guys read the book? If so, what do you think of this news?
sd
he was outstanding in “John Adams”.
he was great in American Splendor!
That would be awesome to have a spinoff of that film with his charecter. Wouldnt you love to see an action movie with jason statham dwayne johnson and giamatti in it?
After seeing Race to Which Mountain… ill never look at The Rock the same way again.
As for Giamatti in an action film. it just doesn’t really feel right. Sure he was great in Private Ryan and Shoot Em Up, but he has to much of a sophisticated aura around him.
Sorry meant to say “Saving Private Ryan”
Hey john. What did you think of giamatti in shoot em up?
I freaking loved him in Shoot Em Up. I’d watch a whole movie just on his character in that.
I love that movie, a lot of my friends were saying it looked ridiculous but that is what made it so much fun, i mean how many times are you gonna see clive owen killing somebody with a carrot, never again.
