Paul Giamatti is a very interesting character. Before he exploded onto the scene as a legitimate A-list leading actor with his fantastic performance in “Sideways” (a performance that many people feel he was jilted out of a Best Actor nomination for) he was one of Hollywood’s most recognizable (even if you had no idea what his actual name was) character actors. You know… he’s the guy who was in that movie.
Since Sideways, we’ve all come to appreciate how much talent the man has, and soon he’ll be appearing in the movie adaptation of Mordechai Richler’s “Barney’s Version“.
The folks over at Cinematical give us this:
The project, which will be helmed by Richard J. Lewis (CSI director), follows a hard-drinking rascally man named Barney Panofsky who decides to write “the true story of my wasted life,” from adventures in 1950s Paris, to money earned through a TV company called Totally Unnecessary Productions, to three different wives. But ithe tale is unreliable, and footnoted with corrections from his son.
I’ll confess I’ve never read the book itself, so I went and did a little reading about it before putting up the post… and I’ve got to say from what I can tell, this sounds like a fantastic idea for a film, and Giamatti certainly sounds great for it.
Have any of you guys read the book? If so, what do you think of this news?
