Ravage Revealed From Transformers 2?

Ravage-Concept.jpgI’m one of the few people out there that really liked the design of the Transformers in the movie. I thought it was a perfect combination of Alien looking technology, practical working design and just flat out coolness. I know some people out there still wanted the cardboard box shaped arms and legs and for Megatron to have a trigger in his crotch with a penis shaped helmut… but I loved the way he looked.

So now that we’ve established that I dig the design of the Transformers… WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE DESIGN OF RAVAGE?!?!?! This picture comes via the good folks over at LatinoReivew and it appears to be the concept drawing of what we can expect Ravage to look like in the upcoming Transformers 2 movie. WTF?!?!?! That looks horrible!

For those of you who may not know, Ravage is an evil Transformer who is a part of the Decepticons. In the original cartoon, Ravage was a panther like robot who transformed into… well… a cassette tape that was stored in the chest of another Decepticon named Soundwave who transformed into a Sony Walkman. Yeah it sounds stupid… shut up. Obviously some adaptation needed to be done, but come on, that design looks like something from a bad Disney movie. Man i hope it’s fake.

  1. Well I say late 2009 cause at the time (before john posted about the trailer) I didnt believe the film would be finished by this summer. Now after hearing rumors of a trailer coming this Feb my disappoitment meter is getting higher. Read my post on the Transformers 2 trailer.

  2. wait wait, @ first comment ( GRAVE ) the movie comes out on June 26th 2009… where do you get late 2009 or 2010…and ravage has that alien organic look of scoponok of the first film.

  3. NO NO NO!

what is that?! its like someone thought it would be fun to throw a robo-cat reject into what could be a great sequel!

ok maybe they might pull it off but am i the only one who wants to keep transformers fun? the first movie was sci-fi, but with some suspended disbelief we just about believed it..im thinking this is going to make it just.plain.stupid.

  4. OK, well at least they are getting the Devastator mistake fixed in this movie. As for Ravage couldn’t they just turn him into an mp3 player? Laserbeak could be an IPOD and Ravage could be a Zune. Why is megatron a jet and not a missle launcher, that would be the most logical option to the classic gun look. Also I hope they bring in the Dino bots or Omega Supreme.

  5. he looks awesome, All these complaints are so entertaining to read especially th ones that say he looks too alien like, well duh he is a “alien” robot so ofcourse he’s going to look alien like. “A bad Disney Character”? yeah, never seen a character like that on the disney channel but I guess if your going to complain about something I guess you can relate to something that has absolutely nothing to do with it.

  6. If it was some other robotic franchise then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, but for Transformers?? No thanks.
Not that I have a lot of hope that the next movie will be anything special. Transformers was entertaining, but by no means a good movie. The highlight for me was Optimus showing up and Peter Cullen voicing him…the rest well, it had its moments.

  7. How his hind legs can be full of wow and badassness and that head look like a bad Alien3 ripoff is beyond me. I’m not against lifting from other sources, but Alien3 sucked. Don’t rip off Alien3.

  8. @Matt

    Thanks for the link.

Second impression: I like it except for the head. Some reason or another the art designer has a problem with designing transformers heads/faces. Change the head to look slightly similar to the cartoon (like megatron’s redesigned head looking a bit more like his G1 ver) and I call it great.

  9. And Tweek, the thing in those photos is not Ravage. It’s someone else, that I will not say here due to being a massive spoiler. But I will say one word: Pretender.

  10. Tweek, I know the person who originally got this online (With a few other pictures), and I can vouch that this is 100% NOT a fake. I can’t say if its what the final product will look like, as its just CONCEPT art, but I can vouch that its not fake.

  11. bear in mind it’s a concept, they aren’t always intended to represent the final product, they are often made to inspire the design of the final product.

I like the picture as a concept but the final design should look a bit different.

  12. This is a fake. There is already a shot of ravage on the internet. He does look much better than this. You can see him at moviechronicles.com. He is under the transformers blog at the website in a couple of photos from the set. You only see the top half of him however as a guy is simulating his movements on the hood of a car but it is more than enough to know that this shot is truly a fake.

  13. Although Ravage appears cyclopean at first glance, if you inspect the full image closely, he appears to have circular structures on the side of his head, which may be the real eyes. Then again, Meg’s eyes are the same color as that circular thingy at the front of Ravage’s head. The body looks alright, but the crap that hangs off Ravage’s head has to go. It’s like the designers were going for a chimera of a shark, a big cat, and a scorpion. FAIL!

  14. Not sure what to make of Ravage as it’s a small picture although not keen on the cyclops aspect but as someone who hated the Megatron design in the first film i quite like his robot form for the second film he seems more solid and it looks like they’ve added a big gun to his arm :)

  15. Hard to say at this stage. We are not gonna see this film till late 2009 or 2010. Megatron is ok, wish he wasnt a tank but its better than a jet. the Ravage pic is nothing i can really get a rant going or not, hell I dont even know its real.
