Higher Quality Star Trek Trailer

I don’t have much hope for the new Star Trek movie to be honest with you… but “not much” hope means there’s still a little bit. We all had a chance to see the youtube bootleg version of the new Star Trek trailer the other day, and now they’ve released the full quality version.

Hope or no hope, I’ve gotta say I do like this trailer.

  1. Give The Move A chance! You cant keep doing the same thing and think you will bring on new fans, everything has to be updated to keep the franchise going for another 30 years. Everything you guys are saying thats bad , you said about Next Gen and Deep Space Nine and you were wrong! This move will be HOT!

  2. Was that Captain Kirk jack hammering Uhura???

    YESSSS!!! FUCK YESSS!!!

forbidden love among the stars baby, that’s what i’m talking about!

“Message from Star Fleet Captain, you gotta dig me out again”

  3. Give us some more gratious sex scenes and more violence in this new Star Trek.

Long time Star Trek fan, but damn it’s annoying how clean cut and whole some it is. If it was not for the occasional damnit or hell.

It would be all Gosh Golly Jeepers.

Let’s get some realism in there…. now I dont mean Scientific Reality but how people act and talk.

  4. @1138 – I hope the boy Kirk car chase will be only a short preface scene too. ANd as far as reboot… it really is a total reboot. You cant have it just be a scifi flick about an alien named gleepglorp and call it Star Trek. They are “re-doing” Trek so they have to use the general template, so some of the details kinda have to be similar, otherwise just call it new scifi, not Trek.

@LordthyBob – i HOPE it wasnt the GQ rock monster. I watched MANY times and went through it in slo-mo and it LOOKS like it is just some roundish rocks collapsing in like a tunnel thing. Dear Lord, i hope thats all it is.

@AjaxLou – The transporter swirly effect IS cool as hell.

Did anyone else notice that alien looking “tentacle” thing that seemed to be in seveal shots? I wonder if that thing plays a major part or is just a generic “lifeform encountered in space” kinda thing.

And overall, while looking fresh, this trailer does seem to keep many of the classic Trek “things”. They had: The overall ship designs, Spock looking like Spock(and being half human/half vulcan), Sulu “swordfighting” (frickin great), transporters, Scotty being funny, Bones McCoy being crotchety, and overall sense of “space”.
(Although i must admit i hate the showing of “sexy bra scene”, I mean does anyone say “Well, i would go it they had more T&A in it…”, but i guess someone does, hence they have it…)

I hope once it gets closer we get a more trailer with a little more plot detail, but this was a pretty good job for being the first full trailer.

  5. I actually really like the trailer, and I’m no fan of TOS. (Give me TNG or DS9).

I’m really looking forward to this. I just hope that it comes out here in Japan. If it does, we’ll probably have to wait several months later. Probably about the time it comes out on DVD for the US. This is the only thing I hate about living here. It makes the movie geek inside of me cry.

  6. i don’t know it was pretty good, and i actualy got excited about it, but then it got to the parts where they started implying that there’s gunna be a sex scene in it and i lost a bit of excitement. Because it will feel out of place and it will most likely be all softcore because it’ll be PG13 and It probably also means they’re gunna have to have a side love story to build up to the moment.

  7. Whether John has little hope or not about the trailer….
WHO CARES!!! It’s what I think… and boy, the trailer is
    hitting everything right… SPOT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s hope the movie turns out the goods come May 8th… :)

  8. Can I buy tix now? I don’t want to wait six months. I miss having Trek on every week (besides Enterprise and most of Voyager)… this looks friggin awesome.

I had my doubts about a reboot (or whatever they’re calling it) but everything they’ve done so far has kicked butt… casting is spot on.

I agree with the poster above about not being this excited since First Contact… which is my favorite Trek flick of all of them.

  9. I was hating on the ship design… but that thing is HUGE. As a lifelong Trek Fan… minus some years of refusing to watch Ds9 and Voyager, I hope the movie is really good. Trek fans have been kicked around for the last number of years, and it’s easy to be pessimistic about it’s future…
If Trek is pulling a Die Hard villain by coming back to life one more time before it dies totally, at least I still love Star Wars, and have Clone Wars every week and a live action Star Wars TV series to look forward to.

  10. i have never really been into star trek, but this is in my top 4 films to see next year!!

    1. Watchmen
    2. Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen
    3. Terminator: Salvation
    4. Star Trek

    this trailer looked great!

  11. Not really a Star Trek fan, but this looked pretty kick ass. I might have to check this out. I’ll wait to see the reviews first though, but it definitely got my attention.

  12. You’re killing me, John. Give the trailer it’s props!

“Hope or no hope, I’ve gotta say I do like this trailer.”

Gah! Are you letting your disappointment with the Star Wars prequels cloud your judgment? Hmm?

  13. This trailer looks amazing! The new transporter effect is great as shown in the scene with Spock. My only complaint is that Eric Bana doesn’t look Romulan enough unless they changed their design.

  14. Kid at the beginning not a good sign…but hopefully it is a short scene…and the whole bad boy thing has been done to death. I hope JJ doesn’t get to cliche…he has a tendency to retread on worn ground.

Spock looks good though…still hate the new enterprise though…looks like it was born mishapened or something…maybe it was the angle.

Trailer doesn’t get me excited just worried. I was really hoping for a total reboot…start clean…but I guess the Trek fanboys have to be paid attention too.

  15. @ anthony
Yeah, that’s the Silar dude. I agree with you on the chick in the bra.

When Star Wars revealed it’s origins in Phantom Menace it was a letdown. On paper it sounds great to see some of Kirk n Crew’s beginnings but it’s a tough thing to pull off.

If nothing else it will give Scary Movie 7 something to work with.

  16. hey is Spock the dude from Heroes who plays Silar? I think the obligatory shot of the woman showing her bra was unnecessary. I still think this is a Star Trek for teens. I have never been a Trekky before, but this is not convincing me either. And I thought J. J. Abrams was a producer/writer, not a director.

  17. I never got the whole argument about the black/yellow shirt since JJ said it was to do with the story IE that day he was mourning or called out of training excercise or lost the yellow bit that goes over it or SOMETHING?

    anyone agree??

  18. Negative nellies begone!

That trailer kicks all kind of ass!

Star Trek on a bigger scale than Star Wars!

    Awesome!

PS – that new transporter effect is way cool.

  19. you know what is strange though, by looking at the comments in other posts (ahem), there seems to be a trend of star wars fans getting excited and trekies getting fairly negative. I wonder if the same thing was being done with star wars would the trend inverse?
