Sony Imageworks Announces its upcoming Projects

Sony Imageworks has announced their dance card for the next chunk of time. YOu can look forward to seeing their special effects in a number of films.

ComingSoon.net says:

• Action thriller EAGLE EYE for DreamWorks Pictures
• Mystery adventure WATCHMEN for Warner Bros. Pictures
• Dramatic thriller UNTITLED RIDLEY SCOTT FILM for Warner Bros. Pictures
• Family adventure G-FORCE, a Jerry Bruckheimer Production for Walt Disney Pictures
• Suspense thriller VALKYRIE for United Artists
• Animated comedy CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS for Sony Pictures Animation and Columbia Pictures

Now the one film on that list that gave me a geek-gasm. G-FORCE! News of Gatchaman as a feature film is the best nostalgia news ever. John had his fascination with Starblazers, but for me it was Battle of the Planets (and we just called it GForce). I knew they were working on one, but to hear that its going to be live action and 3D? That’s enough to wet my pants.

Then I had a little cry while wringing out my boxers to find out that the GForce they are talking about is A specially trained squad of guinea pigs is dispatched to stop a diabolical billionaire from taking over the world. Yeah, because THAT story just needed to be told.

Gatchaman (the original Japanese Title for Battle of the Planets/G-Force) is still slated for a 2009 release and will be animated. However that seems to be in limbo as it still only is in the writing stage.

  1. @ Rodney

Gatchaman is passed the writing phase, but has gone through many development problems with both director Kevin Monroe and writer Paul Dini leaving the project, over creative differences.

  2. Does anybody not give a shit about the fact that “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is being made into an animated film? Seriously?? This is redonkulous. i can see Spike Jonze doing a fantastic job on “Where the Wild Things Are”, but “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs?” Well Doug, prepare for another “Meet the Spartans” style review.

  3. Isn’t Bruckheimers G-Force the movie about mutant animal soldiers, and not Battle of the Planets.

I’m certain they’re overlapping the titles since Neil Gaimen is calling it Battle of the Planets.
