Rocky Marciano Biopic

Rocky49 fights and 49 wins, (with 43 coming by way of a knockout) is the record of Rocky Marciano. This dude ripped peoples heads off, and a warrior like this needs to have his story told anew! We get news today of a new biopic based on the life and times of Marciano thanks to the hallowed halls of the Hollywood Reporter:

Boxing legend Rocky Marciano is coming to the big screen in his first authorized biopic. Morris S. Levy’s M.E.G.A Films has acquired rights to Marciano’s story from his family and will produce a feature from a script by first-time writer Terri Apple. Boxing aficionado Apple has spent 25 years as a voice-over artist, written the TV pilot “Bomb Squad” and obtained the life rights of another championship fighter, Aaron Pryor.

The film will follow Marciano from childhood in blue-collar Brockton, Mass., to his 1969 death in a plane crash.

I love boxing movies. Two gladiators fight till they are bloody, bruised and raw for the sweet supper that is victory! The term undefeated is both a badge of honor and a target for the boxer. The weak may fear your conquering history, but the brave are looking to build their own legend; and there is no way better than to best Goliath. The fact that this man was able to retire undefeated is a testimony to his greatness, he bought groceries, went to Disney Land and golfed as the undefeated champ.

Production on this film is set to begin next year and we will be certain to keep you posted on the progress. Rocky 6 was a glorious punch em’ up, and now we have another Rocco to look forward to. With MMA becoming the fighting sport of this generation, boxing may eventually make way for biopics about differing fighting styles. I personally cannot wait till we see a feature length film about the Brazilian anaconda known as Royce Gracie. Until that day – I will gladly welcome all boxing films.
