Maguire and Gyllenhaal in talks to star in ‘Brothers’

jake-gyllenhaal.jpgI don’t know about you, but I used to get confused by these two actors just as much as Tom Sizemore and Michael Madsen confused me. I used to mistake one for the other all the time, and wondered why no one has cast them as brothers in a film before. Now it seems that Hollywood has finally taken notice and they are pairing these A list actors together onscreen.

Moviehole gives us this:

The acting duo – whose parents definitely drank from the same DNA fountain at some time or another – are eyeing a remake of Susanne Bier’s Danish-language war drama “Brothers”, which centers on a man (Maguire) who is sent to fight in Afghanistan while his black-sheep brother (Gyllenhaal) cares for his wife and child.

This to me is the best casting choice since Kris Kristofferson played Kurt Russell’s father in Dreamer. Both are very good actors, and it’s going to be great to see Tobey Maguire in something that doesn’t require him to wear a costume for a change. (Loved him in Wonder Boys!) Hopefully these two A-listers both sign up for the flick.

  1. I used to get confused between Elijah Wood and Tobey Maguire.

As for how to tell the difference between Jake and Tobey, it’s pretty simple. Jake is like a foot taller.

  2. best casting since Kris Kristofferson played Kurt Russell’s father ??
what about Backdraft ?? Kurt Russell played is OWN father..

i hate when people do that.. the worst time i ever saw this was in “Sunshine” where Ralph Fiennes played father and son for 3 generations.. i mean.. at some point i really bealive there was some kind of weird GENETIC ANOMALIE on that family… damn..

  3. Seriously? You get Jake and Tobey mixed up? I don’t see it, because Jake has a BIG head and Tobey doesn’t.

Anyways, I do think the two of them would make a great team in a movie, albeit maybe somewhat of a slow pace to the dialogue. I see an underlying reason though, and if the Spiderman rumours are true that Jake is taking Tobey’s place, then I see the above statement that some people can’t quite figure out who’s who would lead to an easier transition for the new Spidey movies.

Oh, Madsen and Sizemore could be twins… Maybe they are…
