Jamie Foxx Goes To The Soloist

I think it’s fair to say at this point that the two most successful projects for Jamie Foxx at this point in his career have both been musical in nature (Ray, which won him an Oscar… and Dreamgirls). Aside from thise two, his other recent films haven’t faired nearly as well or been as well received (Miami Vice, Jarhead, Stealth). So what do you do? Why you go back to a music theme obviously!

The folks at Yahoo News give us this:

Based on a 12-part series of articles by Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez, the story centers on Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, a homeless musician with schizophrenia who dreams of playing at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Lopez’s articles, “From Skid Row to Disney Hall,” were published in 2005 and will serve as the basis for an upcoming book by Putnam.

Ok, you know what… when I first heard that Foxx was going to do The Soloist, yet another Music based project, I sort of rolled my eyes. But you know what… this actually sounds pretty damn interesting to me. I’ve done a little more reading on the background and it really is compelling stuff.

Foxx is a solid actor, and I’m really looking forward to his new flick “The Kingdom”. I’ll be adding this one to my list of “must see”.

  1. Personally I was always proud of how Jamie Foxx acted in “Colatteral.” That is one of the first roles I ever saw him in that wasn’t the stereotypical “funny-man” role for him. Not to mention that it was a box office success. I just wanted to mention that. I believe he was also nomiated for Best Supporting Actor, this was the same year he won for Ray.
