Vin Diesel To Return To Fast and the Furious 4?

It’s a pattern as predictable as winter coming after the fall. An actor who was or close to A-list status discovers that his career is in the crapper… and thus decides to return to an older characer that once made him famous. No, I’m not talking about Sylvester Stallone or Arnie… we’re talking about Vin Diesel.

Following a couple of big hits (particularly The Fast and the Furious), his films started bombing. No one cared about seeing a Vin Diesel film anymore (maybe it’s because the dude can’t act). Anyway… it’s almost laughably predictable that sooner or later we’d be hearing about him returning to the fast and the furious franchise to try to recapture some of that popularity magic.

The good folks over at Moviehole give us the following:

Diesel could be in talks to reprise his role as Dominic Toretto for the third sequel to te 2001 hit. You’ll recall Diesel briefly returned to the role for last year’s “Fast and the Furious : Tokyo Drift” sparking rumours his character may return in the next chapter. News have surfaced that musicians Wisin and Yandel have been contacted by Diesel – if that’s true, it means he’s onboard as a producer – about appearing in the film. The meeting occurred at the concert offered by the Telecommunication Company,”Claro”, that was given in the Dominican Republic. Its believed that the duo might pop up in a scene set at a disco near the end of the film.

Oh good lord. Look, despite the fact that I don’t personally think Diesel is much of an actor, I’ve always had a decent degree of respect for him for how he has handled his career and certain decisions he’s made. I’ll even go so far as to say that certain roles he’s taken has forced him to improve as an actor (although modestly). But this I think is a horrible decision for him. Not just because the fast and the Furious films suck enormous amounts of ass… but because it’s moving backwards for Diesel. And unlike Stallone or Arnie… he’s way too young to worry about that yet. Just my thoughts.

  1. F&F Tokyo Drift was not a ‘movie’ per say, it was more a cum fest for drift enthusiast. Many didn’t care about the plot and what not.. They wanted to know who can do what with that Sylvia, that Rx7, and to see one of the real-life Drift King doing a cameo.. All in all I hated the movie cos of course you have the American winning the last battle with an American car, only with the S15 engine. Which is ridiculous to say the least. These cars were built to drift, and that Mustang, not considering everything else, was just SO high off the ground I’m surprised it didn’t topple off sideways. Ye it was a ridiculous movie. But it was a ‘good’ movie for the fans. Didn’t matter that it ripped Initial D to shreds.

But that’s just me being a geek and an Asian car bimbo all in one. Vin should never do F&F again. He really should look for more action roles, and I actually enjoyed him in Find Me Guilty.

  2. YA I AGREE WITH JOSE…..I MEAN HAVE YOU REALLY SEEN A ACTION MOVIE OTHER THEN die hard where the actiong was good lol….john u have a pre concieved notion about vin diesal…im not his biggest supporter but i like some of gis movies……why would u hire a brute of a man to be a fucking cookie baker….u dont u hire him to play a kick ass elite 1 man army to kick your face in…..i mean shit i know i dont want to see him in a romance movie…but hell im a guy i dont watch romance movies!

i think your jealous! …..dont respond i was kidding

  3. Campea,

I am afraid I have to disagree with you and grately. I consider the Fast and the Furious movies to be really entertaining. Those driving sequences and all those mofoking cars are just off the hook! I don’t know why it is that you don’t like them, perhaps the storyline isn’t that polished as in other movies? So what? I don’t watch a cars movie for it’s story, as long as the story is believable and nice enough, there is nothing to worry about. I watch a cars movie for its cars, it’s cars sequences and of course the ladies.

And Vin Diesel, my friend…he is a great actor for the roles he has been given. He is this bad ass dude who you just know you can’t mess with. His role in Riddick was really nice, not to mention really bad ass. Perhaps he is not an outstanding actor, but the roles he can do…he does well.

  4. As a few of the posts said, Vin should continue doing more voice work. I thought he would have been great as one of the Transformers, but that role could have been too close to the Iron Giant.

  5. I dont mind him, some of his more recent movies has sucked major ass, “the pacifier”………..But Fast and Furious was pretty good, and i loved Pitch Black…..nad his charcter Riddick

  6. Poor Vin Diesel. His biggest mistake was not doing sequels and picking rolls that required acting. He was kick ass in Pitch black or whatever it was called though.

  7. His best work to date was just his voice………in The Iron Giant. If you hsven’t seen that movie, you deserve DEATH. what a fantastic movie.

  8. @Kristina:

The Third Fast and Furious was watchable, with the kid from Sling Blade all grown up – worth seeing but not one to buy.

Vin had a great character in Riddick, only the last movie was a real dissapointment. ‘Find me Guilty’ was a interesting roll for him, not one I would have cast him for and not a movie I’d ever watch a second time. In the ‘Pacifier’ ….well just sucked ass. He needs a great director to mold him, and a seasoned actor to mentor him in a movie, like another roll with Tom Hanks. Couldn’t hurt. He’s not the worst actor out there, but yes he needs improvement.

  9. While I liked ‘Fast 3″ a lot more than I should have, I am more interested in another “Riddick” film for Diesel…weren’t these planned? In any case, I’d like to see Vin do more action films, or go for more indie films, such as his well done performance in Sidney Lumet’s ‘Find Me Guilty’.

It’s funny. The other day I was wondering where Diesel was; it seems he’s been on an extended vacation or something. At least he won’t return for a xXx3.

  10. Vin started out pretty well, Saving Private Ryan, Boiler Room, then Fast & Furious happened… when you only live your life a quarter mile at a time, you probably can’t see the dead end.
