I Just Don’t Have The Words To Describe How Good Sicko Is

Sicko-SmallI’m going to try to keep this as short as possible. A person I know came over to my place this weekend with a burned copy of the new Michael Moore film “Sicko” (yes, it’s already floating around out there). All he said to me was “you have to watch this”.

Now let me reaffirm that piracy is wrong. Also let me admit that I am WEAK. I’ve been looking forward to this film for so long… and even though I could resist going on the internet to look for and download it (heck, people have even been emailing me links to it, but I resisted!)… I just couldn’t resist a disc in my hand. I AM SHAMED! I justified it to myself by writing a note on my computer monitor that says “No matter what, go see Sicko on opening day”. This way I could make myself feel better… because I’m going to pay admission (yes, it’s a damn weak attempt at self justification… but there you have it).

Sicko, as most of you know by now, is Michael Moore’s look at the American Health Care system and its failings. The movie is SHOCKING, funny, and at one point came damn close to having me in tears. The film is beyond wonderful. You know a documentary has done something right when all you can do is think about it days after you’ve seen it. Yes, it’s that good (It’s even almost as good as Prince of Peace – God of War) lol.

I’m not going to go into anything here, I’ll wait to put up my actual review of Sicko once it hits theaters… but I just wanted to tell all of you to make plans to see this film the day it opens. Seriously. Fucking 9/11 rescue workers getting denied health care?!?!?! And wow… he takes one hell of a heavy shot at Hilary Clinton. BOOM! Just see this movie… just see it. Shut up… shut up… just see it.

  1. I wasn’t too enthusiastic about seeing this film seen as how Moore is an extreme liberal bordering on marxist communism, but now that I see that he slams Mrs. Clinton… I’m in.

  2. “I went on a date with a really hot chick, but I can’t tell you about it”! What the heck, Giovanni? Why you leave us hanging like this?

  3. This movie almost brought a tear to my eye as well. The best documentary I’ve seen all year so far. I’m going to go back and watch Roger and Me
    again.

    “wait…Pirates 3 had a Mexican pirate?”

  4. Wether you like him on a personal level or not, Michael Moore knows how to make interesting, entertaining and accessible documentaries, I think no one is going to argue with that.

John, I have a totally off-topic question and since I don’t where else to post it, I might as well do it here. An answer would be much appreciated.
It’s been a few weeks since you and The Movie Blog got featured pretty prominently and favourably in TIME magazine.
Now since that article came out, did the visitor numbers for this site increase and if so (would surprise if not) than by how much? Don’t need to numbers here, just a “considerably” or “not that much, actually” would be fine. Also, did you notice more attention from advertisers? What would you say the reaction to that TIME article was like in that field?
If you don’t want to tell, fine, but since I’m a student in the media field and very much interested in interaction between different forms of media, your answer would be very helpful, thanks.

  5. Far better than F-9/11. This may even actually remove some of the Moore-hating out there. Things are toned way down on this one, and far more anecdotal…I’m sure his signature ‘bending’ of the truth is well there (I can speak from experience on some of the “Canadian” segments of the film, but still. A very very good issue and an interesting way of covering it (by contrasting it to systems that work well).

Even if only 20% is ‘truth’ (whatever that means), the film is still pretty alarming.

  6. I saw it also, but in my opinion it’s only good if you take it with a rather large grain of salt (like all of his work) and realize that you are only being shown the extremes of the issue and missing a lot of relevant and contradictory information to the films pov. But it’s a good topic to bring to people’s attention. To me, if I could chose one thing I want my government to do for me it WOULD be health care. You can’t live life you are sick or dead. A corpse has no use for roads or a fucking library.

  7. John you should have said: ”I got a showing of Sicko last night by Mr. Moore himself because he loved Prince Of Peace so much. Moore downloaded my movie which themovieblog is against just to let you all know.” :P
