Paulsen Pens Futher Adventures in Babysitting

Adventures in Babysitting was one of my favourite 80s movies ever. I had such a crush on Elizabeth Shue, and the style was SO 80s it almost hurts to watch it again. Now we have news of a remake.

Disney has hired Tiffany Paulsen (Nancy Drew) to write Further Adventures in Babysitting, with Raven Symone and Miley Cyrus to star and Lynda Obst producing.

The project is a remake of 1987’s Adventures in Babysitting, which David Simkins wrote and Chris Columbus directed in his feature bow. Obst and the late Debra Hill produced for Disney’s Touchstone label.

I find it interesting that they would have a remake of Adventures in Babysitting and then call it FURTHER Adventures in Babysitting. Wouldn’t this be better named if it were a sequel? Granted this would be a much more updated story taking place in current times instead of the big hair 80s.

This is the second movie Paulsen will have screenplayed, and we haven’t had the chance to see Nancy Drew yet, so I have no idea of this girl can even put together a story. But someone seems to have some faith in her, so we can only hope this works for her.

But who would be the perfect Babysitter babe? This screams a Lindsay Lohan movie from a mile away, but I hope they don’t go there.

  1. Is this going to be one of those things where they take a movie from the 80s and remake it only with an all black cast and some “hip new urban lingo” thrown in there. Forget Lindsay Loahn, get Cedric the Entertainer, Bow Wow, Nick Cannon, and Ice Cube on the phone!!

  2. I don’t think this is a remake; I think it is a sequel in name only (unless one of the characters from the first sort of cameo, such as Shue…or VINCENT D’OFRONIO—come on Rod, you know. The mechanic mistaken for Thor, God Of Thunder?) and will most likely be a Disney Channel TV movie.

Because Raven is primarily a Disney TV presense.

If this was a remake, will the best parts of the original be repeated? Some smart lass wh like Marvel Comics’ Thor and a heroic mechanic in a spitting image…or when on the run from bad guys from the local chop shop…ducking into a bar…get onstage..and you can’t leave until you sing the blues.

  3. Am I the only one who thinks that Raven Symone hit her acting peak on The Cosby Show and that now any “talent” she may have had at one point has gone right down the gutter? I am so tired of seeing her in anything! The girl just can NOT act!

  4. Raven Symone was rumored to have been cast back when this was first announced some time last year. That was before they had a screenplay though so maybe things changed but it wouldn’t surprise me if Disney went with one of their young actresses currently starring in a Disney channel series for the role.

  5. Generally I hate remakes in this day in age, but the one horror remake that I’m actually look forward to is The Wolf Man with Benicio Del Toro. From the script review on Latino Review it seems like were gonna get good horror remake.
