Grindhouse Spinoff Movie “Machete”

MacheteI remember when I saw the first teaser trailer for Grindhouse back in October I was totally pumped… but then let down. You see, in the first trailer, it was pretty much all about the Danny Trejo character “Machete”. Man it looked so SICK GOOD! But then my heart was broken when I found out that he’s not really in the movie… Machete is just another one of the fake trailers in between the 2 features.

But now GOOD NEWS! It looks like Robert Rodriguez is planning on doing a Machete spinoff movie all its own! It’ll be direct to DVD… but that’s ok. The good folks at Cinemablend give us this:

But the big scoop of the day came when Robert revealed that he’s planning a solo movie for actor Danny Trejo’s Machete character. If you’ve seen any of the kickass trailers for Grindhouse, then you’ve seen Trejo as Machete, a bad ass dude with, well, two machetes. Robert’s answer was, surprisingly, absolutely. He is doing a Machete spin-off movie, and it’s likely going to be direct to DVD. Rodriguez seemed pretty adamant about this, as if the film is already a done deal.

Now don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to see Grindhouse. BUT… if Grindhouse was opening on the same day that a Machete movie was opening… well.. I’d see Grindhouse the next day. Man, I hope this actually happens.

  1. Awsome! I was thinking the same thing when I saw the first GH trailer, that the Machete part looked like it’ll be allot of fun to see and creative. Then when I found out it’s just a trailer I got kind of sad.

But now I’m so happy again. :D Danny Trejo is awsome. I love him in every movie hes been in and its great to see him back in action. I can’t wait to see it get made. I just hope we don’t have to wait too long. But I’m thinking we’ll have to wait til after Sin City 2. Ohwell, atleast it’s happening, right? :)

  2. I liked the Machete trailer as well, but the idea of a straight to video kind of bothers me. Usually the kiss of death, with a few exceptions. I hope this is one of those exceptions.

  3. I like that the fake movie trailers to be presented as flavour for the Grindhouse experience may actually serve as REAL trailers and get made into movies of their own.

Maybe they can start a trend with this and show fake trailers during Machete and have those become pulp movies too.
