Sandler’s new comedy Zohan capures the interest of Columbia

adam.jpg Adam Sandler has a new comedy being shopped around town and now Columbia Pictures is about to take care of the last bit of business to secure the new flick Zohan. The people over at yahoo.com give us more:

Columbia Pictures is in the process of scooping up Judd Apatow, Robert Smigel and Adam Sandler’s script “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan,” with Sandler on board to star in the comedy. The project, developed at Revolution Studios, follows the exploits of an Israeli Mossad agent who fakes his death so he can anonymously move to New York and become a hair stylist. Smigel is penning a rewrite.

This is the first film in at least a couple of years that has me at all interested in Adam Sandler, I like the idea of the script a lot. It is silly I know but there is something about movies that show the lighter, human side of organizations that are known for being brutal.

Why couldn’t a Mossad agent really want to be a hair stylist? It is completely possible there is one out there right now that dreams of cleaning up split ends and shampooing blond tendrils. Will this be a funny movie? I think it’s quite possible given the people involved, Judd Apatow, Adam Sandler and Smigel all have funny films under their belts, nobody is green and everyone (including Columbia Pictures) seems excited about the film.

All in all I think this movie has a decent chance of getting me into the theater
