Aaron Eckhart Is Two Face

The list of names floating around as a possible candidate for “Two Face” in the upcoming Batman Begins sequel “The Dark Knight” has been long and wide. Names like Ryan Phillippe, Jake Gyllenhaal, Guy Pearce, Jamie Foxx and even Ethan Hawke have all been whispered at one time or another for the role (personally I think Pearce would have made an AMAZING Dent. Did you know Pearce was up for the role of Batman in Begins?).

Well, all that whispering can be put to bed now, as it appears Christopher Nolan has found his Harvey Dent (aka Two Face). Aaron Eckhart. We first talked about the fact that Eckhart was being looked at for the role a couple of weeks ago, and personally I love the casting here. Eckhart is first and foremost a solid actor who gives great performances even then the roles he’s handed suck. He’s got a strong screen presence, a good look and I think he’ll knock this role out of the park.

So now all that’s really up in the air is who will be female lead in the film be? Right now the cast looks something like this: Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger and now add Eckhart to that list. Not bad… not bad at all.

So what do you think… even is Eckhart wouldn’t have been your first choice to play Harvey Dent… are you happy with the casting?

  1. This is going to bring Batman to a whole ‘nuther level. Good stuff. I really like Heath Ledger as the Joker, awesome and now Eckhart as Two Face…. sweet.

  2. There’s a lot to say with this post. I’ve liked Ekhart off and on since “Thursday” and “The Company of Men.” He has been given some crap movies, (the core, for example) but last years “Thank You For Smoking,” put him right on top in my list once more. They said Phillipe and I imagined him whining and mumbling his way through it, you say Eckhart and you’ve got yourself a Two-Face. Who cares about that, you have a Harvey Dent and that’s what’s most important. I’m giddy.

Lose the Dawes character though. I agree, big time dead weight.

  4. Ill be the first to say I doubted Christian Bale when I heard he was first gonna play Batman. I would also be the first run up and bow to his feet for doing so well. When I finally watched “Shaft” I could see that rich boy look finally. Now I had my doubts when I heard Heath Ledger playing The Joker, but after doing some research I can see where they want him in the role. Ive never actually seen Aaron Eckart act, but he seems the closest to the actually character type then the others at the beginning.

Hes just got that swagger and look about him, I think he will do great as Harvey Dent and later Two Face.

And about Rachel Dawes…Katie Holmes did not hit close to home for me personally. So bring on the good stuff!

  5. Tony, I hate to play the geek here, but Tommy Lee Jones wasn’t in “Batman & Robin”, he was in “Batman Forever”.
Doesn’t matter anyway, because both movies were steaming piles of nuclear horseshit.

  6. The choice of Aaron Eckhart is news to me and I damned happy.I saw ‘thank you for smoking’ and he was a trip. But I hope he is the more insidous darker version from LODK.Tommy Lee Jones ,I respectyou for your GOOD work, but Batman and Robin was a train wreck. And you were shoveling the coal.***trains used to use coal for energy***

  7. Hey LizardFreak,

Who in the world doubted Bale could pull off Batman?

I remember him being the fan favorite as soon as he was even rumored for the role. I remember him winning polls on Superherohype. I remember his name being mentioned on every board I read in a positive light. Who was questioning that decision? All I remember is people saying very good things about Bale before and after the announcment.

  8. Thank you Kristina,
Jamie Foxx was the worst of the rumored candidates for Dent, by far.

I gotta say that I am also very happy that Matt Damon turned down the role because Eckhart is by far the bast man for the job. An absolutely perfect bit of casting. As soon as his name was brought up a light just switched on and ever since then he’s been the guy I wanted to fill Harvey’s shoes.

An excellent choice for what’s sure to be an excellent movie.
I also cant wait to see Heath and Chris’s take on the Joker.
Man, 2008 cant get here quick enough.

  9. Eckhart has done well in many films that were stinkers (looking at you, Core) and his recent film ‘Thank You For Smoking’ was one of the best films of last year.

And even if it wasn’t…Eckart nabbing the role is the best news of the day.

  10. I think this is a great choice, Eckhart is a great actor, fits the role and he was amazing in “Thank you for smoking”, one of the best movies 2006.

“The Dark Knight” is by far my most anticipated film in the next two years. Mark my words, this movie will kick unholy amounts of ass!
“Batman Begins” was the best superhero-flick ever in my book and with this unconvient origin-story all wrapped up and Batman full in action, this will rock. And the Joker is back…….can’t wait.

  11. Great casting. Loved Eckhart in Thank You For Smoking. He is a good actor and will bring charm to the role. I can see him playing the nice guy as Dent but one evil bastard as Two-Face.

  12. I too hope this will get him to a more broader audience, Ive always liked Eckhart, I think the first role I saw him in was The Missing and I knew this guy would eventually get somewhere.

    Nord

  13. I heard he was the other choice for the lead role in the Davinci Code, but it was given Tom Hanks because of of how popular and more recognizable he is. Hanks just reaked in that movie.

As for 2 face, that is alright by me

  14. As long as it aint Jamie Foxx.

And they should eliminate Rachel’s character completely. The character is dead weight. Get her outta there so we can have some ass-kicking action instead of lectures about doing the right thing. Rachel is to Batman what Aunt May is to Spiderman: a preachy bitch who needs her throat cut.

  15. Well, he’s better than Chris Tucker. No, (Eckhart is WAY better than Tucker ever could dream to be) this is actually great news! As long as Eckhart brings charm and there’s a chemistry between him and Bale, no problem. By the time both Dent and Wayne are confronted with challenges like the Joker, and Wayne is torn between the struggles of his mask and his played up “high-society-lifestlye”; I really want to belive that the two are best friends torn apart from
by what cards life has dealt them; too bad they were both dealt Jokers’- Makes for great story telling though!

I loved Nolans take on fear in the first film. And I am really excited about the whole new “things have to get worse before they can get better” theme. I really think Eckhart can pull off the rich-elegant-do gooder. And time will tell whether Ledgers take on the Joker, or Eckharts take on Two-Face will be stronger, or moreover equal.

The Movie Blog has helped me understand you cannot judge an actor until you see their work. Like how everyone, myself included, doubted Bale could pull off Batman. The actor takes a character like a blank-cell, and fills in their charm and professional skills to make the character colorful and presentable. One way or the other, nobody knows for sure how this will turn out. But when you have decent actors guided by an excellent storyline and director, you can bet your top-dollar that this film will kick-ass.

I was wowed (like everyone else) by the story, acting and directing in Begins. So until I see The Dark Knight, as it stands, Eckhart is a wonderful choice, and this film will undoubtedly punch us all out of our seats (in a good way of course). :)

    Excellent news! :) :) :)

  16. great choice :)

i’m waiting for batman 3 to see him with the make up and all, he’ll do a great dent.

physically he doesn’t look a lot like the dent from Long Halloween or the cartoon’s dent, so bringing him will change a little bit the visual image we have of him; but no problem, he’s got the chin :P, good lookin and his acting is excellent.

The cast is perfect, the only thing that keeps bothering me is the female lead, the Rachel Dawes character should be off the script now that ms. cruise doesn’t want to be in it, so f*ck her and let’s bring an ACTRESS and a new role for this ACTRESS :)
