Sylvester Stallone To Quit Acting

Stallone-retireSylvester Stallone will never be on “Inside the Actors Studio” (unless he already has and I just made myself look like a moron… which happens from time to time so I won’t be surprised) or be remembered as one of the great thespians of our time. But there is no denying (for those of us who are children of the 80’s) that he has brought us some of this generations most iconic characters.

Sadly though, almost every other acting attempt by Stallone away from those iconic characters (Rocky and Rambo) have pretty much been total failures (aside from his role in Cop Land which I thought he was actually pretty damn good in). And that fact doesn’t seem to be lost on Stallone any longer. Looks like after the new Rambo film, Stallone is retiring from acting. The good folks at Digital Spy give us this:

According to Breaking News the Rocky star said, “After I make this I see my future as a director. I’ve been displeased with my last few films, as well as some in the past.” Sylvester Stallone, 60, has the embarrassing accolade of being the actor with the most Golden Raspberry Awards – a prize recognizing bad movies and poor acting.

So what do you think? Is this the end of the line for Stallone as an actor? If so… then I think it’s a good idea for a couple of reasons:

1) He can’t really act all that well. I know it sucks to say that… but come on… it’s true

2) It allows him to focus on writing and directing which he’s already shown he has some decent talent in.

3) It would be TOTALLY fantastic for him to end his acting career with the two role that defined him. A new Rocky movie and the new Rambo flick. Really… what else is there for him to do? What other franchise would be better for him to end his career on? I submit there is none.

  4. Oh come on…can’t act? really? really>? well you have to admit
he’s a big guy with hard to read features…not his fault really…besides what do you want? him to have taken on CRistian Bale’s “MACHINIST” performance? please that wasn’t acting….besides when your that skinny everything is painful to deal with..constant paind ug… why would he chose those roles as a fit person? he beefed up a bit for copland..but i think the story needed work……rasberry awards? who the fuck put that together? and if you say good actors i wanna know who.who has the fucking balls to stand up and say “HEY YOU SUCK!”…if so why haven’t they done it before now? I dunno.. i honestly don’t have actor loyalty at all.
no prefrence…he was good on the show “las vegas”….funny too.

  5. I thought Stallone did a great job in both “Tango and Cash” and in “Oscar.” But I agree that if he were handled by a great director, he would look much better.

  6. I thought Sly was good in that direct-to-video movie called Eye See You, it was a pretty cool little movie, an example of the stuff Sly should be doing.

More power to him, he was an 80’s icon man, not many of those still around.

  7. It isn’t that he can’t act. Copland proves that he is capable of acting. He was robbed of a nomination that year as he was amazing in that film
He is also very good in Rocky and First Blood. The problem is the cartoon sequels and other film roles in some of his films have overshadowed his performances in the originals films and detract from how good an actor he can be in the right film and right role.

It aint his acting thats the problem its has been his film choices.

I personally think he is a much better actor than Arnold thats for sure. Not that that says much but I think he has shown more range, convincingly, than arnold ever has.

  8. Direct!!!! Are you serious? Does anyone remember that he directed the sequel to Saturday Night Fever,… Stayin’ Alive? Did you think that was good?

  9. He should have done this years ago… like most actors that wait too long to call it quits. Leave well the getting is good, and well we still remember you for the great movies you made and not the stinkers you would be making now (or have been thus far).
