Audio Edition, Ads and Service Unavailable News

Hey there guys, John here with just a couple of quick items to bring to your attention.

1) Audio Edition Mail Bag tomorrow
Don’t forget to send in your Audio or text comments or questions. Big stuff or small stuff. Questions about stuff posted on The Movie Blog or said in a recent Audio Edition? Anything at all!

2) Service Temporarily Unavailable Message
Some of you have come to The Movie Blog and get a “Service Temporarily Unavailable message. All you have to do is hit “refresh” or “reload” once or twice and everything will be fine. What’s happening is that my current hosting plan only allows for 100 people to be on the site at any one time. This has never been a problem, and honestly I never thought would be a problem… but as the site has continued to grow, every once in a while you MAY get that message. If you do, just wait 2 or 3 seconds and hit reload. I’ll figure out a solution to this problem soon.

3) New Trailer Ads
A new Ad will appear on the site that plays movie trailers. It automatically loads. This can be a distraction, so I’ll only have the ad up less than half the time. Either every 2 or 3 days… or sometimes just for half a day. It will help the site out a lot.

4) Redesign Update
Yes, the redesign process is underway… probably about a month away from completion. Thanks to everyone for your input!

  1. Hey John,

You could always use specialized podcasts servers. There’s great article about them here: http://soundblog.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!1pXOS7l93k8mqeQ7FlEEmOSQ!559.entry – please read it. Just check out OSCDN.com, LibSyn.com or Audioblog.com. You may find them useful for hosting your podcasts.

And what’s about your hosting? It’s damm crappy if you couldn’t even host all your podcasts. I had the best experience with http://www.siteground.com which offers you 24 GB of space (!!!) and 800 GB Traffic (!!!) unlimited MySQL DB, emails, subdomains, ftp accounts and so on. It’s also having a CPanel and user support 24/7. I suggest using siteground – it’s fast, easy and cheap – only $5 per month. And siteground is offering you a ton of bandwidth. Not free, but very cheap. Check it out.

  2. Hey Ruffian,

Sorry man… it just costs way too much in my bandwidth bills to allow people to download them. I keep as many up online as I can… but the Audio Editions kill me financially.

Selling them is the only real option I have, unless someone gives me a TON of free bandwidth. And no one is. :(

    Sory dude.

  3. CD? CDs sucks, man. I’m foreigner and ordering it will be just some unneeded difficulties for me. You haven’t stored them anywhere on your own PC? And you have pretty crappy hosting if you have difficulties to store bunch of podcasts. Maybe make a post about this problem and maybe someone will just help you out with hosting?

It’s sad. I really enjoyed your last podcasts and wanted to listen to old ones, but blah…

  4. The Trailer Ads are just fine, they don’t distract so much. I use firefox with several extensions and sometimes I feel a little bit responsible for not viewing ads at pages I really enjoy in order to support them, especially when I readed you post John about the pop-ups and how they support the site, etc.
I will listen to the audio edition tomorrow so I don’t know what you said there but as long as they are MOVIE or TV trailers, don’t know other people but I will actually watch them, they are more than OK to me and really more enjoyable than text or static ads.
