I though I’d give you guys a heads up on this new chinese flick that is showing at Cannes. Its loosely based on Hamlet with a chinese flair to it with wuxia Martial Arts thrown into it. The trailer looks damn good. Zhang ZiYi from Crouching Tiger, Memoirs of a Geisha, Rush Hour 2 stars. The IMDB gives us this synopsis:

A loose adaptation of Hamlet, “The Night Banquet” is set in an empire in chaos. The Emperor, the Empress, the Crown Prince, the Minister and the General all have their own enemies they would like to finish off at a night banquet.

  1. Her breakthrough came in Crouching Tiger. She also had a role in House of Flying Daggers, Musa and a smaller role in Hero but those 3 movies I listed are ones that the general American audience would recognize most. Name a movie that she is more known for than Crouching Tiger and Memoirs.

  2. “Zhang ZiYi from Crouching Tiger, Memoirs of a Geisha, Rush Hour 2 stars.”

If I didn’t know more about her film career this listing would have sent me screaming in the other direction. LOL. It’s like saying “Robert De Niro from Analyze This, Meet the Parents, and The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle”, as my friend kindly pointed out.

But thanks for posting on it! Had no idea she was in the cast of that film (or that it was Chinese, for that matter).

  3. I *LOVE* these Chinese movies with all their beauty, kung-fu action and wonderful stories. I’ve seen more than my share and I just can’t get enough. This one looks just as good as the others!
