I really wasn’t impressed with The Butterfly Effect. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t the worst film in the history of cinema or anything like that.. but I found it slow, sluggish, forced and predictable all at the same time. Add to that the fact that I’m still not sold on the idea that Ashton Kutcher has any business as a leading man in Hollywood. But I digress…
The Butterfly Effect 2 has it’s wheels in motion, and so far there is nothing to convince me that this is a good idea… other than the fact that Smallville hottie Erica Durance (Lois Lane on the show) is signed up for a part in it.
It should be noted that Aston Kutcher is NOT going to be in it.
The good folks over at Cinema Confidential give us this little synopsis of the project:
The movie will not be related to the original film with Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, but follows a similar premise in which a character is able to travel back in time in order to change the events in the present, but finds that every little change can lead to drastic consequences.
Ummm… doesn’t that just sounds EXACTLY like the first one??? I mean.. .I know the films should be related, but on the surface all this sounds like is another kick at the can for that particular concept… just without Kutcher. Wait a minute… maybe that’s not such a bad idea after all. :)
have you seen the DVD Directors Cut? its still not perfect, but its nowhere near as bad as to deserve the critical drubbing it initially received…
Ashton Kutcher’s acting is tantamount to crimes against humanity, so him not being in this one is a good thing. I might actually see this one.

That’s interesting in light of what Bill Cunningham of DISContent fame (http://d2dvd.blogspot.com/2006/01/is-it-me.html) reports about Sci-Fi Channel turning “The Butterfly Effect” into a series. Movie and series at the same time? Seems unlikely.
