Prince Caspian in 2007?

Prince CaspianThe next installment of The Chronicles of Narnia series could be closer than a lot of people thought. Prince Caspian is now rumoured to be targeting a Christmas 2007 release date. This really shouldn’t be surprising news to anyone since The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe has been even more successful than anyone at Disney even projected (as of this writing it’s already made over $200 million world wide with no signs of slowing down heading into Christmas).

For those of you who don’t know much about Prince Caspian, here’s a short synopsis from Amazon:

Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensey, the heroes and heroines from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, return in this fourth installment of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia series. The four children are transported from an English train station to an island in the world of Narnia. Though Narnia has been at peace since the children left, it is now under the control of Wicked King Mirax. The youngsters, along with Aslan the great lion, must help young Prince Caspian restore Narnia’s glorious past.

As I mentioned in a previous Audio Edition, I actually preferred (by a little bit) The Chronicles of Narnia over King Kong. But as much as I liked Narnia, there is room for improvement. I’d be very interested in seeing Prince Caspian, and have little to no doubt that this thin will get made… and made fast. As a matter of fact I’d be totally shocked if we didn’t see Prince Caspian in theaters by Christmas 2007. Any longer than that would be a missed opportunity.

  1. I think they should just go with the order the people made up, not C.S. Lewis because they said they’re gonna start making PC, and that’s really the 4th book, not the 2nd. I think most people would just get very confused or something.

  2. Hey Daniel, better late than never but thanks! I have been reading the books in the order that you said since my friend loaned it to me recently. I have just finished reading “Prince Caspian” last night.

So far “A Horse and His Boy” is my favorite, I really felt for Shasta. I hope they will make a film adaptation of it though, and Aslan was, WOW!

Has any of you guys seen “Shadowlands”, a film about C.S. Lewis which starred Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger?

  3. To Simone:

The order of the books is:

Magicians Nephew: Tells of Narnia’s creation.

Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe: You probably already know.

A Horse and his Boy: Happens at the same time as LWW but in Calormann, lands to the south of Narnia (helps explain the last book).

Prince Caspian: Return of the 4 children to help Prince Caspian restore Narnia to what it was.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader: Tells of the journey of Lucy, Edmund and their cousin Eustace to the islands in the eastern seas and beyond.

The Silver Chair: Tells of the journey to the North of Narnia to the land of the giants and the underworld leading back to Narnia.

The Last Battle: Tells of the battle with Calormann and the end of Narnia as it was known.

  4. Hey,

The original order is a perfectly fine order to read them in. I actually prefer it, there is no confusion. LWW, PC, Vof DT, SC, H and B, MN and then the LB. The movies are being made in the original order.

  5. We have to now that it’s not sow bad that tha kids grow a little from the first movie to the second because the for Pevensie will not take place in all 7 books, fore example,Susan takes place in Narnia fore the last time in PC and dosen’t even return in the 7 book”The last battle”where even the proffesor returns to NN.

  6. I really prefer to read them in published order, but either way is really fine. Just depends on personal taste. I enjoyed The Horse and His Boy – different setting, different characters for the most part, but still a very fun story. However, I think skipping it in movie production is a wise plan (I believe it shows up 4th in publication order, 2nd in chronological). I still don’t know if I think they should make it at all. It takes place sort of between the time that LWW starts and ends, so it might be very confusing for the average moviegoer.

One little nitpick though: it’s “Pevensie” ;)

  7. Well, the order of which they follow is as follows

Magicians Nephew: it explains why the professor knows so much about narnia and reveals how narnia was created.

Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe: Ya already know.

A Horse and his Boy: It’s boring so I never read it all. Doesn’t take place in narnia.

Prince Caspian:haven’t read it or any of the rest.

    Voyage of the Dawn Treader

    The Silver Chair

    The last battle.

I hope to read the rest soon.

  8. Hey I have a question for those who have read the books.

Is there an order I should follow when reading the books? Because its like there’s the published date order and the chronological order. Is there any difference which order I read the books?

  9. Hey Simone I did not say I would lend you my Narnia books! I have not finished reading them myself yet!

BTW would you be interested it seeing TLTWATW again when I visit? I have not seen it yet?

  10. Much as I enjoyed King Kong (despite its length) I did prefer Chronicles of Narnia. Aslan was just WOW! In the same way that I have not read any of the LotR books, but after seeing Fellowship on DVD, it made me want to read the trilogy. The same for Narnia, after seeing the film, it also made me want to read the books which is what I will be doing as my friend will lend me his.

So this news means that in 2007 we get Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix in November then Prince Caspian in December? YAY!
