Death Race 2000 remake fails?

DeathRace2000.jpgSince the remake of Death Race 2000 was scheduled to be written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (called Death Race 3000) there’s probably no big sighs of disappointment out there with the news that it’s stalled.

Film Fodder have the news from Sci Fi Wire that Roger Corman told them…

…that the remake and update of his classic movie “Death Race 2000” may have stalled…

…The updated version, “Death Race 3000,” has been optioned by Cruise/Wagner Productions – Tom Cruise’s company. Director Paul W.S. Anderson (“Alien vs. Predator” and “Resident Evil”) wrote an initial draft of a screenplay but, according Corman, Tom didn’t like it.

Thank you Mr Cruise. I think we’ve just been saved by the Cruise-Meister. That really was a film that was tied to a specific time, I don’t really see how a remake would work nowadays…can you?

  1. Aw, c’mon…running people over for points as you race across the country isn’t tied to a specific time. That’s fun forever! Now talking on the CB while you race across the country to deliver Coors beer from Texarkana Texas to Atlanta Georgia is pretty much tied to a specific period in time. ;-)
