Night of the Living Dead…in 3D?!

3D-Audience.jpgYes, I could hardly believe it myself. From Movies Online:

A new remake for George Romero’s classic “Night of the Living Dead” is coming. And it will be in 3D. Written by Robert Valding and directed by Jeff Broadstreet the film already is in post production and the crew is currently working on the music, sound work and the CG visual effects shots…

… George Romero is not part of this production. Jeff Broadstreet told Fango ,”We are re-imagining Romero’s film, but we are remaining faithful at the same time. Robert Valding wrote a very clever script, and we tried to comment on society now the way the 1968 film commented on its own time”

There’s a site already and there’s even a trailer…although it’s flash encapsulated and therefore the worst thing since cubed bread.

Frankly, I can’t believe it, and in the words of Darren from the Day of the Dead post, “…ANOTHER zombie movie?!?”

  1. Darren doesn’t follow the movie trades!!! Polar Express did 14 times as much per screen business in 3D as the flat 2D version. $46 million in just 82 Imax 3D theaters! Chicken Little in digital 3D did 4 times the business of the 2D release. And my 3D film, back in the seventies, made 300 times its production budget. If King Kong were to be converted to 3D or better, shot & animated in 3D, it would make at least $200,000,000 more in the world-wide box office market!

  2. Side note:

3-D movies may cook up some nostalgia, but..not including movies for theme parks, like T2:3D, has any movie really been that successful with the format?

    Any takers?

umm umm. That’s what I thought.

  3. …and another…

    …and another…

    …and another…

    …and another…

    …and another…

    …and another…

    …and another…

“Re-imagine” another word meaning to take some property and re-invent the mythology connected to the orgins of said movie or show. What can be possibly be done that hasn’t been done? We had slow zombies, zombies who speak and think (Land Of The Dead and the spoofs Return Of The Living Dead 1 and 2), fast zombies (Resident Evils, House Of The Dead and 28 Days later) more spoof (Shaun Of The Dead) and some that defy explanation (Undead).

“We tried to comment on society now the way the 1968 film commented on its own time” says Jeff Broadstreet. Well, considering that the remake of “Dawn” didn’t have that, sounds good. No, wait. It’s bad. “Land Of The Dead” made a light comment on current society, involving class structure. And “28 Days Later” also echoed some things regarding present day. “28 Days Later” also had some genuine suspense in it.

Remembr that news about the return of the Gill Man? Makes me want to see the remake of “Black Lagoon” go up against crapfests and knock them out of the ring. There was a time when there was a vampire movie every other month. Same now for Romero inspired zombies/ghouls. Enough. Move on. Nothing more to see.

Now…just you watch and mark my words, folks. The next move on the zombie remake front will be Wes Craven’s ‘Serpent and The Rainbow’, which is, of course, more along the voodoo area of Zombies. It’s only a matter of ti…..look, I really don’t mean to scare anyone, okay, I’m just sayin’ y’know. This seems to be a case of ‘let’s not only remake zombie movie, let’s remake it again!’
