Cameron not on Terminator 4 or True Lies 2?

JamesCameron.jpgThat looks like the word from Times Online through Movie Web. In the article James Cameron talks about his upcoming projects. Here’s the bullet point read.

I’m directing two movies back-to-back and I’ve got two more lined up after that…Two movies using the same techniques, the same 3-D digital-camera system, the same virtual production studio. They’re big projects…

…The first will come out in the summer of 2007, the second in the summer of 2009. One is called Battle Angel…The other, which he refuses to talk about at this stage, may be what is known in Cameron circles as Project 880.

He will not be making Terminator 4, and he will not be making True Lies 2, as has been rumoured.

Well bear in mind there’s no direct quote to back that up, that’s the reporter writing there. So that means we can all hold out some faint glimmer of hope…make sure it’s faint though. Sad news out there, or do you think there are other Directors who could handle these remakes?

Frankly I don’t think there is anyone who can capture what these movies were about and recreate them. I mean look at the recent Terminator movie, that was a joke, it was like the Airplane version of the film. There’s something about both these original movies that was just so special I don’t know if they can be recreated, even by Cameron (that’s a challenge!).

  1. I think most of us would love to see the original director coming back to the sequel of Terminator (sorry I dont care much about the other one). I thought the last one was pretty good but you could see that it was lacking something compared to the first two films. It was just a touch less elegant and the script could have also been improved.

    Anyone knows any timelines?

  2. Does anyone know the premis for T4? I’d heard a rumour that T3 was going to do a “Back to the Future II” and have a lot of Time Travel, maybe even going back to the same time periods of the previous films. Obviously that didn’t happen, and I quite like the idea of it for T4.

On the directorial front, if we can’t get Cameron, then we ned someone who can bring back the epic-ness of T2. Ridley would be good, Michael Bay (only if you don’t let him anywhere near the script), John McTiernan was good in the Die Hard days, maybe Peter Jackson (though I don’t think he likes hard sci-fi). Spielberg would be great – War of the Worlds had a lot of Cameron touches.

  3. How about the Wachowski brothers? Ok, everything besides Matrix was crap, but they do know how to create the right atmosphere. I mean, what would T4 be about? It would have to play in the future, around the time where the war of the machines started. And it would have to be a dark movie, with somehow confused characters (confused humans, not Terminators, of course). So I have a feeling that the Wachowskis could give this the right feeling.

And, of course, there is allways Ridley Scott. He could make up for G.I. Jane :-))
