Another Whitley Strieber alien story

I’ve read three of the books by Whitley Strieber, the ones which follow his own dealings with his alleged alien kidnappings. That’s him being kidnapped by aliens, not him kidnappi…you get the idea. Anyway, they do make for interesting reading, and the movie of the book Communion starring Christopher Walken is indeed pretty freaky whether you believe in the subject matter or not.

It appears that his latest book has just been snapped up, and he hasn’t even written it yet! According to Coming Soon:

Sony Pictures will pay Black Hawk Down screenwriter Ken Nolan $3 million for his 75-page “script-ment” (less than a script but more than a treatment) of Whitley Strieber’s as-yet-unpublished alien sci-fi novel The Grays, says Variety.

The story concerns an alien race who essentially function as the “United States of the cosmos” — running things on Earth as well as on other worlds. Operating in secrecy, the aliens are unwilling to reveal themselves for fear of altering mankind’s development.

Whatever you believe about Strieber, I think his work is very interesting and it does present for some interesting movie material. Communion was good, but was hampered by people finding it hard to believe rather than approaching it as a movie. It will be insteresting to see how this one fares.

  1. Who helmed Communion? Phillipe Mora, right? Man, that was a hokey, wacky movie.

But y’know something? Whit’s got other books. One of them was turned into an effective horror thriller (for its time) in 1981.

Wolfen. You all remember Wolfen, don’t you? With Albert Finney?
