It’s funny, but as much as Jackie Chan’s “New Police Story” has been talked about here on The Movie Blog over the last year, I’ve never actually seen the trailer. Well… now I have, and I can honestly say I’ve never looked forward to seeing one of Chan’s films this much.
Haven’t heard of New Police Story? The good folks over at MovieWeb give us this little synopsis:
One year earlier. A band of young thieves takes down a large bank. When the police arrives on the scene, the robbers shoot them down in cold blood. Inspector Wing’s elite unit is put on the case. Acting on a tip, they storm the thieves’ hideout. They’re stepping right intro a trap. The place is a labyrinth, rigged as a giant video game. Wing must watch helplessly as, one by one, his team is brutally slaughtered by the audacious gangsters.
It looks like the first Jackie Chan film in a while where the tone seems to be a darker one instead of comedic… which is a good thing. As much as I like Jackie Chan, I’ve found his North American Comedy films to be quite taxing (except perhaps for Rush Hour 2).

jackie chan is nothing like chow yun fat. chow yun fat can act while jackie is a little underneath him.
in police story it’s just jackie being more melodramatic than his previous films. stunts are more or less the same, so are the fights.
i’m surprised this movie’s seeing the light of day over here. anyways, it’s a nice show for the jackie fans but average fare for the common moviegoer. if you don’t watch it for jackie, watch it for daniel wu. he’s a cool actor.
Very nice. I think when we mentioned this before it was on a bit of a downer side, but this is looking much, much better. Chan going back to acting.
Jackie Chan is back to form in this movie. The movie is definitely darker, after seeing his whole squad killed before him, he becomes a depressed drunk. A lot of drama the rest of the movie, its worth it, because the end is fantastic, because this is where Jackie should have been years ago.
I’m down for a darker Jackie. Especially if they dicker the shit out of the plot has it’s been outlined. A little Chow Yun Fat wannabe, perhaps? Maybe. But even so, they are both great and we all love the darker side to any movie either one them are in, don’t we?
