Colin Firth in Brian De Palma’s Toyer

ColinFirth.jpgColin Firth has really come in leaps and bounds from the lowly days of playing Mr Darcy and his tight britches, and now he’s set to play the lead in a Brian De Palma film entitled Toyer. The interesting part is the blurb on IMDB:

Toyer is a madman, highly intelligent and masterfully manipulative, he charms his way into the homes of his victims, all beautiful young women and skillfully labotomizes them. With no trace of forced entry at the crime scenes, the police are baffled, and as the number of victims increases, they show no sign of solving the case. Enter Dr. Maude Garance. As the neurologist who cares for Toyer’s victims, Dr. Garance is living daily with the horror that Toyer’s savagery yields. She must stop him at any cost. As she builds a detailed psychological picture of the culprit she quickly realizes it will take every ounce of strength to expose him. However she may come face to face with him sooner than she thinks…

It does sound like a good story, although similar to the Lector kind of thing, but knowing De Palma I doubt it’s going to be that simple a comparison.

  1. Actually he doesn’t lobotomize, he does spinal cordotomy and it isn’t anywhere near Hannibal Lector. I have read the book (way back when they announced Colin Firth as taking the role in 2004) and am dying for this film to get going. Per Tarak Ben Ammar (producer) they hope to get this filmed early 2006. And in ref to the ‘lowly days’ one needs to see some of his films prior to said P&P. Like ‘Master of the Moor’ ‘Apartment Zero’ and ‘Tumbledown’ and did you catch him in last years ‘Trauma’? (the Region 1 DVD comes out June 14th.) The man has been stuck in rom-com because of P&P but he has done so much more.
