Ben Affleck to direct Gone, Baby, Gone

Ben_Affleck.jpgIf you’ve hung around The Movie Blog even a little bit, you know I’ve got more respect for Ben Affleck than most people do (but that’s not saying much). I think the guy has a lot of talent but also really bad judgment.

Having said that, the guy who won an Oscar as a screenwriter for Good Will Hunting is now going to sit in the director’s chair for the upcoming Touchstone film based on the book Gone, Baby, Gone. The good folks at MSNBC give us this:

The film is adapted from writer Dennis Lehane’s novel of the same name. Lehane also wrote “Mystic River,” which was turned into an Oscar-nominated movie in 2003 by actor/director Clint Eastwood.

The novel “Gone, Baby, Gone,” tells of two working class private detectives in Boston, Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, who are hired to search from a missing child.

I’m interested to see how this one shapes up. Affleck has already proved he can write a story… now let’s see if he can tell a story.

Say all the bad things you want about Ben Affleck. He’s sleeping with Jennifer Garner and you’re not.

  1. if i was him i would go home and take care of my pregnate wife…………. Jennifer is a great girl and you cant just get up and leave i undersatnd that ur “bringing home the bacon but ben do it close to home….

  2. OK, the Kenzie & Gennaro novels are pretty good, and this one has good screen potential. Trick is, who plays Kenzie and who plays Gennaro. If Affleck wants to pull this off, he better not cast himself as Kenzie. Ben, for the love of God and Kevin Smith, please, please, please get on the phone to your buddy Matt. If Jennifer (man face and all) wants to play Gennaro, let her. Oh, and as long as I’m casting this thing, Vin Diesel was born to play a supporting role in this story.

  3. the success of the good will hunting script with matt damon doesn’t mean he can write
‘sides, the scripts got kevin smith written all over it
    :P

  4. He’s just feeling the blow back from the J.Lo incident…..bet he rebound before she does. She look desperate….he looks like guy who cant settle down. But he WAS real bad in that Surviving X Mas movie….one of the few movies I shut of half way in….

  5. Funny, I never did see Ben as a breakout actor on his own, but rather a strong behind the scenes influence and power player that has a lot of opportunity and talent to turn script and people into great film work. I echo Kenn’s sentiments on this, Ben is making a great career decision. And by doing this, he opens up his options for longevity in this business. He can now pop in front of a camera or behind it depending on his comfort level with the public du’jour. Ahhh, to have so many career options in today’s work force. He is one lucky bastard, I tell you.

  6. I’m with John. Jen can kiss me with her man-lips anytime she wants. I can’t say I’ve seen Ben give a performance that I really liked but GWH was a great movie and for that, I’ve given him extra grace. I actually want to like him so I hope he does well but we shall see…

  7. I think it’s a very smart move for Affleck. If the movie is good he will be in Hollywood’s good graces again. It won’t even matter if it makes money. Oh, and he also wrote the script for it.

  8. Yay, me and John are gay… :D Great discovery… Oh well I guess I can deal with being gay if all man look like Jennifer. ;)

But seriously, I said once and I’ll say it again, this kid has a lot of potential. Let’s see what he can come up with this time, I think (and hope) it could be pretty good…

BTW John is that picture like ten years old or what? He looks a bit young there, ehm… (a bit gay too) :-/

  9. Hey there Rawhead

Yeah, that rumour has floated around for years… but it’s been disproven many times. There’s nothing to the rumour.

And dude… if Jennifer Garner has a man face… then I’m going gay.

    Cheers!
