Grudge 2 to retain Takashi Shimizu

JuOn2.jpgExcellent news for the sequel The Grudge 2 with Coming Soon reporting that Takashi Shimizu will return to Direct.

To be honest there was no other choice if they wanted to continue to be true to the story. The originals are very good and have a cult following, the Hollywood remake is just as good for the Western audience, and it’s giving the Asian market buckets of exposure in the mainstream.

I guess though that has it’s downside, just check the previous post about the Asian remake market, and how many more have been bought up since then?

Senator International, the Stateside operation of Senator Entertainment, has completed a management buyout and changed its name to Mandate Pictures.

With the announcement comes the news that The Grudge helmer Takashi Shimizu will return to direct the sequel for Ghost House Pictures, Mandate’s joint genre production label with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert.

Upcoming films include Dibbuk Box, Scarecrow, The Evil Dead, and 30 Days of Night.

Watch out for these other titles as well, there could be some interesting films to come out of their production house and the story behind Dibbuk Box has already whet my appetite.

  1. First off….nevermind. I won’t critisize everyone’s hideous spelling errors, and point out that it is dumb to say things like “1” instead of one, and “eva” instead of ever.

    Now…

i LOVE Sarah Michelle Gellar. She is beautiful, talented, and wonderful. Oh, man.

  3. I liked The Grude lots. It was kinda corny in some parts but it is freaky just thinking about that little boy or the big eyed wife. SMG did an ok job.. I dont think it was her fault that some of the scrips were stupid… but I would like to see her again in the second one.. I love her more in Buffy…and in other movies.. dont get me wrong I liked her in The Grudge also… well I cant wait ’till The Grudge 2 and I am looking forward to see SMG in it!!!

  4. I LOVED THE GRUDGE I THINK IT WAS SO GOOD AND I CANT WAIT TILL DA 2ND 1 IS ON AT DA MOVIES, I HOPE SARAH M GELLAR IS IN IT COZ I LUV HER TO PIECES N SHES DA BEST ACTRESS EVA.

  5. I hope this is supposed to be about the grudge 2 b/c thats what i’m going to write about, lol. I don’t think that Sarah should die b/c shes the main character, she should find a way to get past that, you know not die, face that girl or w/e and not die, so there will be a grudge 3!! lol. So yea i tihnk that they will fund some crazy way to keep her in the movie, i hope their will be more than just 2 movies, well cya

  6. sorry for all you SMG lovers, but I think to make sense of the story in The Grudge 2, ***SPOILERS FOR GRUDGE 1*** they would have to kill her character off. I mean come on, she was in the hospital morgue with the girl, PLUS it would only make sense if she died, because she had been inside of the house. But of course since it is a horror movie after-all, I bet they could probably find some crazy way to keep her in the series. We’ll just have to wait and see…

  7. I’m looking forward to it… As far as there being no closure… If you read up on Ju On you will find out that it was meant to be a franchise series… If there was closure then it would be just another meaningless sequel with no continuity like Friday the 13th or Halloween where they kill the psycho in every movie then find some off the wall excuse for bringing them back. Also… Everyone seems to compare it to The Ring… Honestly… I fell asleep halfway through The Ring. The Grudge at least kept my interest. It’s also not (technically) a rip-off since the Ju On movies were financed and backed by Taka Ichise who produced the original Ring movies. Knowing this it’s no surprise that there are similarities. It’s certain that Ichise was pulling some of Shimizu’s strings.

The only other thing I can say is that The Grudge is the ONLY movie to make me jump out of my seat since Alien.

  8. Here in Brazil everybody was scaried in my cinema too! It is a really nice movie, with nice effects, but it dont have a no problem history like The Ring. It has some un explained things. But the history is great. Who didnt like it just watch the first to criticize it without any foundament. Im waiting for The Grudge 2, and maybe for other asiatic productions like The Eye.
