David Strathairn joins Spielberg’s Lincoln

I’m really looking forward to a good Spielberg movie. A serious one, ya know, without the heroic antics and vine swinging. He’s been collecting a completely stellar cast for his upcoming movie based on Abraham Lincoln and just added another respected heavyweight to his lineup.

David Strathairn has been set for a key role in Lincoln by director Steven Spielberg. He’ll play William Seward, Abraham Lincoln’s Secretary of State, an outspoken abolitionist and a core member of Lincoln’s wartime cabinet.

Whoa. This is really sounding like exactly what I wanted for Spielberg to make. This is sounding better and better on paper and I’m really really really looking forward to this one entering production. Now if only he could find a way to somehow include Tom Hanks.

  1. A good Lincoln movie should avoid overt sentimentalism and just present the real and difficult world he inhabited. Here’s hoping Spielberg gives this script the same level of dedication and authenticity he gave to Schindler’s List.
