Terminator Salvation Title Is Descriptive Of Plot

Jm McgThe man known as Mc G was recently chatting with MTV and had the following to say regarding the title of his upcoming project:

Director McG hinted to MTV News, telling us the title “Terminator Salvation” holds a key to deciphering the plot.

Broadly, of course, the title makes sense the same way “Judgment Day” made sense for the second film: on a worldwide scale — Judgment Day being shorthand for the apocalypse, etc, etc. So after the Judgment comes the salvation, the redemption from the sins of our collective past. Man created the robots, the robots destroyed man, and now man needs to be saved from his own creations. Got it.

“Even though we may sin, ultimately we deserve a second chance,” McG echoed.

But just as “Judgment Day” also alluded to the choice a Terminator must ultimately make, “Salvation” similarly alludes to the actions of one specific character, McG said.

I am not surprised at this news at all. I assumed that when they used the title Terminator Salvation we would ahve some religious undertones and symbolism. My only question is wether the savior will be man or machine. I am going to guess a machine. The savior of the future will then be the model in which the robot of Terminator 2 is based upon. The robot savior saves the humans and then they send another to the past to do likewise. Robots and humans, then begin living together in harmony forever.

This is pure speculation on my part; but it is fun to do. International friends – what do you decipher from what Mc G has told us. How do you suspect the theme of salvation will play out in the film?

  1. Even if John Connor dies it would have to be after the war is over, that was the story in all the films so far.
Also just because the Terminator told Jonh he killed him dosnt really mean he did, there’s 15 different ways they could write around that.
    ^
Aaronk, there milking it and that’s never a good thing if you have destroy the story canon to do it…
I’m all for Terminator but a Trilogy ,,,,,??? I don’t see how with MCG and Nolan.
Maybe if Cameron was doing it, sure. ;o)

  2. i’m starting to wonder if we might find out that some crazy group of humans (maybe traitors within connor’s own gang) are actually in control of the machines, that sure would change the known storyline a bit.

i just don’t understand how they’ve plotted out a trilogy unless there are some kind of human bad guys? a nameless and faceless skynet isn’t going to cut it anymore. T1, 2 and 3 work because sarah and john have to be protected to get to the future that they are a big part of, but in T4 they have to be fighting and i just can’t see them fighting nothing but machines for 3 films.

maybe some form of this ides is the change in the future mentioned in the trailer?

that sounds interesting. one thing though, i really love how the T4 poster looks, its all cyborg, compared to all the half-human half-cyborg posters lol. looks scary too ‘^^

  4. On McG’s blog to the movie i read that T4 plays some years after Judgement day and we will see the T-600 with the rubber skin.

on the poster you can see the T-600 series

honestly i wouldnt give much about the line: “That’s not the future my moher warned me about” from the teaser…… and i dont want it to be different…… because then we would have the paradox problem…..
if it is a closed time line they have to do all the things mentioned in the films before and there are no paradoxa……

ok i stop speculating and i hope the best for this movie….

  5. I think this is going to be an excellent film. As for those rumors about Conner, I admit it sounds lame, but ill give them the benefit of the doubt. If it is true, it adds an element to the whole grandfather paradox-like problem of Kyle Reese being John Conners father.

  6. @Jake Vermont

Its true that in T3 the T-800 mentions that Connor died. Also in the new Salvation trailer, conner says its not the same future he was led to believe. So theres a certain ambiguity going on there to which and what kind of future that is. My big concern is that, if its different and brings change to the Terminator franchise, i hope it ties well with the previous movies, if not, its going to suck really bad. I totally agree with you about the development of Terminators from 800-1000 and especially the TX lol.

Another thing is, how far into the future are we talking about here, right? Is it imedietely after T3 or some time after? Cause in the trailer, at the end of it we saw that tank-like-terminator emerging behind Connor, that model was still in T3. I’m guessing that T4 is like directly after T3, then T5 the big bad war (like clone wars), and T6 is where humans prevail, but, T4 is already titled Terminator Salvation, it sounds like its the only future we’ll see. i dunno i’m just guessing :)

  7. @ BIlly

John Conner has to die. The T-800 in T3 said he had killed him. So he has to die. Maybe we’ll see him die in T6.
My only hope is that they show all those things we heard about in the first 3 movies. I guess in Terminator Salvation we will see how the first T-800 is sent back to kill Sarah Connor. That would be cool. And i want to see how Skynet develops all the Terminator series from the T-600 over the T-800 to the T-1000 and the TX. They should ad a little more science to it.

Recently I read an excerpt from an interview with James Cameron. He talkes about the names which confused me sometimes. Is it the T-800 or the T-101.
He said the Series number referrs to the Endoskelleton type. So Schwarzenegger always played the T-800 Series. The Model number 101 referrs to their infiltration look. All the T-800s we have seen look the same because all their model numbers were 101.
In T2 there is a Terminator view with a StartUp Screen. Look at the left upper corner!

What i want to say is that if there is going to be an T-800 Infiltration Unit in the new movies they will have another model number due to the fact that we have another actor playing them :D
    No more Arnold looks……

  8. Terminator should mainly based on john connor- He should be the hero and he shouldnt die. We’ve always knowen it to be connor-so changing it would be shite-

  9. @handle | aaronk

I agree, with the lines Conner said, it has to be different. But different could mean good or bad. If the story is too different then it will fuck things up, it has to be perfectly balance to T1, T2 n T3, no loop holes. I agree with Geoff too, McG worries me a bit, is he the right director for this? I had the same doubt with Peter Jackson when i heard he was directing LOTR… i’m glad i was wrong lol, lets hope McG shines.

  10. I thought and said the same things Aaron. That line isn’t there for no reason. If the movie plays out exactly how we expect due to the other films spelling it out for us….what is the point, ya know?

  11. i’m thinking that these films will probably follow the star wars trilogy pattern. the 1st film is a new hope – salvation, the 2nd film – empire strikes back, the terminators take control of something (like the time machine) kill many or some key character(s), 3rd movie – reutun of the jedi, the big finale, the human race is wins.

i hope i’m wrong though. in the trailer bale/connor says something like “this isn’t the future my mother told me about.” so maybe something has changed? maybe some key element of the story is different?

  12. @Handle,,
Supposedly there spending 160+ mil on this,,, if they taxidermy Connor (to me) the franchise is dead. :-(

I hope they don’t, but if they do I can only hope their stupidity costs them millions.

  13. Why would you want it to fail? :/

Hope it does well. Tho when the actors call that guy McG in interviews; it annoys the hell out of me. MAKE HIM USE HIS NAME!!!! Hope I don’t hear Bale calling him McG.

  14. What’s this eludes too is the nasty rumor that Connor is killed and they put his skin on a T-800 called Marcus.

    Sounds like total shit btw.

I really hope this film bombs like Judgement day.
