15 Second Potter Trailer With Dark Knight

The other day mentioned the three films that were going to show trailers in front of The Dark Knight next week… one of the films that was NOT listed was the new Harry Potter film. Well… apparently there will be a mini 15 second trailer for Potter in front of Dark Knight… at least in the IMAX theaters. Our friends over at IESB give us this:

Laurie from Snitchsneeker.com sent over word that they got an official response from IMAX regarding the Harry Potter teaser on The Dark Knight.

Here’s a snippet,
There will be a SHORT, 15 second trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince prior to The Dark Knight.

Regards,

IMAX Corporation

What the hell is the point of a 15 second trailer? I can understand an “announcement” trailer for a film that maybe a lot of people don’t know is coming out… but is there anyone on this rock that isn’t currently aware that there’s going to be another Harry Potter film? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with them doing this… but I just fail to see the practical upside. It’s not going to “spread the word” about the new potter film… and Potter fans aren’t going to get any more excited over a 15 second spot. Meh… maybe I’m wrong.

  1. I just saw it on imax.

Watchmen looks sick. Really, awesome. Pretty long trailer. I should have recorded it, lol.

The harry potter thing was retarded. but it was nice to know that its coming out at least. It was just Dumbledore talking, and no visuals at all. I didn’t hear what he said. Sorry. But there was plenty of other people in there that could tell you the same thing, maybe more.

  2. well god. be grateful.
at least its showing with a good movie.
god forbid it came out with sex and the city or something.
and you’re wrong. because Im exited.

  3. Maybe they’re pulling an “exclusive” deal and trying to get more people out to IMAX to see the teaser.

Maybe this will be a trend, where some movie trailers will be played at certain theaters only?

  4. I’d love to see TDK at the IMAX, but our local screen is already sold out for the first two weeks’ of shows, if you can believe that.

I like Harry Potter well enough, I guess, though I missed the last movie, and didn’t feel too worked up. Much like the books (I only read the first five), the movies began to feel repetitive to me. The through-line of the series is a fairly thin mystery, and certainly not enough to sustain multiple Bible-length tomes. The self-contained stories in each book are engaging enough, but after two or three, I just didn’t feel the need for more.

My prediction: these 15 seconds will greatly resemble the previous movies!

  5. I won’t be seeing it in IMAX. While I don’t think having the 15 second trailer will increase the buzz for the movie in any way, I still think it would be cool to see. So maybe they’re just doing it as a way to appease the fan base. But what do I know?? Maybe it will convert some TDK viewers to see Harrry Potter who wouldn’t otherwise have gone.

  6. I wouldn’t care about the length too much. It’s just the fact that only IMAX is getting this sneak peak. Kinda stupid if you ask me considering more people will be watching Dark Knight on conventional screens.

  7. It’s only a teaser just to tickle people’s feet. It’s not as if people are going to buy Dark Knight tickets to watch a 15 sec clip unlike with Star Wars Episode 1.

  8. @Phil Gee –
That is exactly how I’ve been feeling. A handful of production pictures is all we’ve seen and the movie comes out in November. It’s as if WB feels that the franchise is huge enough to carry itself, so there’s no need to promote the film. There may be some logic to that, but as a fan, I’m a little anxious to finally see something more than a picture of Harry, Ron and Hermoine sitting around.

  9. Well lets not judge it till we’ve seen it. It could be the greatest 15 seconds of our lives.

I’m grateful there is going to be something. I mean, i know its guarenteed to make a huge amount of cash but does anyone else find it weird that the biggest film of the Christmas season is a few months away and we haven’t had a sniff of a poster or trailer yet?
