Last Blood Tapped For Adaptation

Last BloodZOMBIES! VAMPIRES! POST APOCALYPTIC SURVIVAL! Last Blood contains all of these things. We get wind of this project thanks to the professionals at Variety:

Benderspink is adapting “Last Blood,” based on Bobby Crosby’s comicbook centered on a band of vampires protecting the Earth’s last human survivors of a zombie apocalypse. “Last Blood” was co-created by siblings Bobby Crosby and Chris Crosby but Bobby penned the comicbook alone. The deal with Benderspink reps the first feature sale for the brothers, who founded Blatant Comics in 1997 and began serializing “Last Blood” online in late 2006. The story was then published in four issues last year.

Zombies and Vampires fighting over the remaining human cattle on earth is certainly a story I can get behind. As a rule, I prefer zombie movies over vampire films; but an epic vampire film is tough to beat. In this situation, there is no need to play favorites – everyone is invited to dinner.

I have not read this comic book series but once again explore those of you that have to please share the details with us. I am currently reading The Watchmen and am doing my best to catch up on must read fables.

This film sounds bitchin’ and is certainly one that I will be on the lookout for.

  1. Ye I have to agree with William. Bobby can be a bit of a douche and is incredibly disrespectful to his supporting fans. A bit of a tyrant. And sometimes his dialouge makes you wonder why he has any right to be (from other works of his as well). But I guess someone thought the premise was good enough to have some one come in to write a screenplay based off of it.

  2. The story is okay, and it’ll make for a fun senseless popcorn flick, but the creator is a little hot-headed.

He does not take criticism well, worse the uwe boll does, actually. (Although i’m certain he is a better storyteller then boll.)

  3. That just came out at me from no where, i thought that couldnt be the same Crosbys that started Keen spot. i used to read all sorts of webcomics on there a few years back. odd news

  4. Hey Doug,
Thanks for introducing me to this comic. I really dig the style of this. Being an Anti-John in that I love everything to do with Zombies and will likely never tire of it, it is always great to read different artists take on the material.

Another fave is “The Walking Dead” which a friend of mine got me hooked on. No film version in the works from what I know though.

  5. I have been following this comic since I believe page 3. Honestly, I was looking for a good zombie comic and thought the premise on this was so absurd that even if it was done poorly it would be funny. Thankfully, the comic has been done perfectly with some amazing writing and beautiful artwork. Do yourself a favor and check out the comic. It is one of the best that I have had the pleasure of reading it and being absorbed by the universe that is Last Blood. Oh, and the movie should rock if it survives the Hollywood gauntlet to production.

  6. When first saw the webcomic I thought the idea was right out of a high school creative writing class. Being the sucker for zombies that I am I read it anyway. Now that the movie is being made I am psyched and I can’t wait to see how this is told on film.

  7. The entire comic is online for free, at the link Scott provided and is VERY good. He actually started the comic series at the same time he started writing the script for it as well, so it’s nice to know that after years of work, he’s finally got it picked up.

I’m really looking forward to see who they get to play the parts. I know some parts he wrote specifically for certain people (Such as Jason Mews), who he actually knows in real life and who have agreed to star as that part in the movie, so hopefully the producers that picked it up go with the creator’s suggestions as the people he suggested have all already expressed interest in playing those parts, and it would make so many people so happy.

  8. I usually try to stay on top of most comics, but this one has slipped by somehow. Looks great and am now looking forward to its adaptation. Thanks for the link, Scott.

  9. I’ve been reading this webcomic for years now. It started off slow, getting you used to the whole situation, and the characters. Though when the zombies begin attacking, you jump right into their world. There is a lot of scenes where it drags some. I’m sure Crosby noticed some of them, and has changed them up some. By the end, you’ve got yourself a nice plot, history, and future to look forward to. Plus, there is one scene in which the vampire backup arrives, in what I figure is the first time this has ever been done, and has to look amazing on film. Crosby is still putting out pages, which I don’t know if they are for a hopeful second movie or not, but they still continue with the story. Everyone should check it out.

Doug didn’t list a website link for the webcomic website so just click the link where my name is. (Unless they don’t want the link posted, in which this post will be deleted.)
