Edgar Wright Finishes Ant Man Script

AntmanWe have news today about the progress of the Edgar Wright Ant-Man film! We get the heads up thanks to our friends at moviesonline:

Finally after years of being in development Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz) has finished up the script for AntMan. While talking to Empire Magazine about Grindhouse double bill he revealed some little tidbits about what he has planned to do next:

“It could be that. I finished the script and I’m having a meeting about it next week,” he said. “But it depends which comes first in the queue basically. I’ve been working on two at once, and I’m also about to start developing two more scripts, one of which is with Simon [Pegg]. It could be Scott Pilgrim (another comic book adaptation who must slay a girl’s evil exes in order to date her) is next or it could be Ant Man, we shall see.”

Apparently this will be a comedy/action super hero hybrid. I am certainly interested to see Wright’s take on Ant Man; he is a character that gets no love and I always enjoy when someone who has an affinity for a character does a film about them. I pray for the day when Clint Eastwood does a Power Man and Iron Fist film.
With the amount of coin comic book films are pulling in, I do not foresee any end in sight. As long as they are good, I could watch 2 a month; they are enjoyable action films with legendary mythic characters battling the forces of evil. I an appreciate a different take on a comic book movie, so long as it respects the character and remains entertaining.

International friends, what do you think? Is an Ant-Man film penned by Edgar Wright something that you would look forward to?

  1. Ant-Man will be a MAJOR surprise to everyone. The movie will revive an old Marvel hero, and I can’t wait to go out and finally buy some Ant-Man merchandise! I can’t wait!!

    Ant-Man forever!!!

  2. I gotta go with John here. On your live show, which featured Ben Stein of the new film Expelled, John said he wasn’t interested in an Ant Man film at all.

I got to say, I’m not interested in that either.

What I am interested in is that the announcement for the live show, which was previously available two posts back, has been removed. With it, a few of my own comments.

Obviously I’m no threat to the movie blog, as they have long been a source of great information and entertainment to me.

I want to know what was so embarrassing about those posts that you now erase them?

Does anyone else remember those posts?

  3. AWWWW carp. I can’t believe they did it! They are going to make an Ant Man movie. Not a Giant Man movie or a Yellow jacket movie or a Goliath movie. Fuck’n Ant Man. Crap.

  4. yeah!!!! fuckin jason statham needs to wake the fuck up and slap himself in the face for ever wanting to be prince namor and leave it to the rock- THAT WAY jason statham can be ironfist!!!!! hes perfect!!!

you guys know who id love to see play thor?? ray winstone, the guy that did beawulf..i mean hes got the whole 3000 b.c. accent right?? he sayd “thy” and “thou shalt not” and shit like that in beowulf anbd when i saw it i sayd to myself “wow- hed make a good thor..”
    idk….. MY opinion

  5. @chris the real one (name still bothers me)

yeha i totally agree i dotn know how theyre going to make it a comedy if he went to jail and he was a burglar and he couldnt keep his family straight
lol he even got his powers by stealing shit and breaking into some dudes house and stealing the suit
(then i think he gave it back?? or kept it to fight crime?? i dont remember)

  6. @ bjon86 and Slushie Man
dude i totally disagree with you guys in him being wack i mean hes got a good story behind him but i think marvels doing this to set up the avengers movie- remember ant mans first apearance was as an avenger. also theyre talking about thor, (i think scarlet witch?) the wasp and captain america (ALL avengers) and mixing hulk and ironman in the movies- so you know theyre coking something and it has to do with the avengers

  7. hey doug a iron fist power man movie would make me very happy. im pretty surprised that marvel is deciding to do an ant-man movie. most non-comic book fans have little idea who this guy is.

making it a comedy isnt really a good idea cuz the ant man character is pretty deep.
the whole thing with pym beating his wife, theres alot to this character that might be missed in a comedy. but the guy behind hot fuzz is writing so it should be funny

  8. Darren,

Word was Wright was doing, Pym in 1960’s and then would jump a head to the present where Lang would pick up the Ant-Man mantel. If Wright can pull off doing horror/comedy and action/comedy. I fail to see how Ant-Man being a comedy/adventure would be bad.

  9. I’m also one of those that thinks Ant Man is one of the dumbest superheroes ever, however seeing as how this will be a comedy, made by someone who I’ve loved every movie he made so far, I’ll keep my ears perked for more news on this project.

  10. I liked the character arc for Pym, although I dont know if they are using the Scott Lang version, or both. do know that I’m NOT looking forward to this because it will be treated like a comedy. Note: if it is Pym, I’d like to see him toss giant throwing tacks and rolling nickels!

  11. He’s written that script together with Joe Cornish, who is a very funny bloke and does a great radio show on british radio (Adam & Joe, BB6 Music).
So that alone has me interested.

Otherwise, Edgar Wright made two great films already, so he can keep ’em coming.
Couldn’t care less about the character of Ant-Man, but it’s more important what kind of talent is involved.
