Brandon Routh Still In For Superman

Brandon RouthContrary to some rumors floating around internet-land, Brandon “the hammer” Routh is still the man to play the son of Krypton. We get confirmation thanks to the dudes at AICN:

I just got off the phone with a very high-ranking mole who is absolutely in a position to know what’s happening with this film, and he tells me that it is “absolutely false” that Brandon Routh is out as Superman for the stand-alone series. The only thing that has been determined is that JUSTICE LEAGUE will not feature the actors from the other films. That’s it. Right now, Routh is still Warner’s choice to return if they make another stand-alone SUPERMAN film, and that’s based on conversations as recently as a few weeks ago.

Superman Returns had a lot of problems with the story. I enjoyed myself, and liked some things about the film; but it certainly wasn’t what I wanted from a Superman movie. Brandon Routh however was good stuff, and I thought he did a great job as Superman. I am glad he is coming back and I certainly think that this is the correct decision.

Firing Routh would have been the worst fucking idea ever. He was well received as Supes, and that is quite an accomplishment for a man that was an unknown actor at the time. Get this man back in tights with a decent story (and kick ass action) and watch what happens. We here at The Movie Blog are supporters of Brandon Routh and will burn you with scalding tongs if you mess with him. Routh is Routh.

  1. I agree that you can replace any actress with Rachel McAdams and that movie and specifically the role which she has taken, becomes infinitely better. She should just play the female lead in every comic book movie as a running joke, but seriously.

  2. “They’re probably dead by now?” You have a lot to learn about pop culture and time periods. You are prime example of the youth of today – clueless.

  3. Bobsyeruncle-
dude..no one was around to watch that geezer back then and if they were- theyre probably dead by now so…and cmon “whoever christopher reeves is”? dude…w.e. other movie he did- he was good in it but hes known and famous for being superman- even my mom who knows nothing about superheroes links superman and christopher reeves as soon as u say either name. so yeah im sure he still is the image that popes up when u say “superman”
i mean they only picked brandon routh cuz he looks lik christopher reeve- not cuz he loks lik superman- i have lik 7 friends at school that look lik superman- u kno, big, white, black hair

  4. Okay, you leave me no choice but to be the nit-picking, trivia geek:

Whoever “Christopher Reeves” is, he never portrayed Superman. In the age of black & white TV, George Reeves played the role. The late Christopher REEVE played the role in the movies.

    Alright, I’m all better now.

  5. In all seriousness, we need to be discussing a replacement for Kate Bosworth. Routh wasn’t horrible, but his chemistry with her was non-existent, and that relationship is the most important one of the film and of Supes’ life. Seriously, if you think about it, she’s the closest person to him, but you’d never know it by watching that film.

I nominate Rachel McAdams. She’s the proper age, she’s a killer actress, she’s got the perfect look, she’s PERFECT.

  6. Bring Routh back and get rid of whatever buffoons wrote “Returns”. Those mental midgets are the ones that screwed up what should have been an amazing movie! Oh, and get a new actress for Lois. Bosworth doesn’t fit, not even close.

  7. I thought Routh freakin nailed Supes! I’m telling you…I didn’t think the movie was a home run, but when I sat down in that theatre and the music started, I felt like a kid again.

That, and I could care less what people say about his acting, he damn near channelled Christopher Reeves. I thought his performance was spot on.

  8. Kristina, you crack me up.

I liked Brandon in SR. I think we should all get over Brian Singer. Yes, I love that a fellow ‘MO’ is out there making great virile movies for the masses, but I think SR was kinda mushy. More action and make it quick before Routh looks too old.

  9. Stick a cape on Routh’s dong and let that thing play Superman. It’d probably do a better job stalking Lois, lifting shit, floating around for no particular reason, and impregnating women and abadoning bastard children.

  10. I think they should give Singer a crack at the sequel too, but at the very least they need to keep Routh. He was perfect IMO, and he holds the visual mantle of Superman in my head now.

  11. just for comparison think this DOUG
    1 Hugh Jackman
    2 Brandon¨the lunch box¨Routh
BOTH STARTED THE SAME WAY IN HOLYWOOD,AND THE FIRST IS ON SEVERAL MOVIES SINCE THE FIRST X MEN.
THE OTHER DUDE IS IN ….?
I dont care with he stays, but aniway, this shows the difference in acting shops department!
With he has some charisma or some talent why no one called him for anything else?
Maybe this TOO could be a reason why S.R. turned so bad in the mouth spreading and for consequense turned into a almost taboo on the GEEK fandom.
WHO KNOWS?maybe another actor with a better reach ¨no pun intented¨ could maded the movie something better?

  12. Wow Doug, you softened up about SUPERMAN RETURNS didn’t you?
Didn’t you more or less call it a boring piece of shit at some point?

That aside, of course you’re right. Firing Routh would be insane. And NOT making another Superman-film asap would be insane as well.

  13. I for one though routh was awful as superman he just didnt have any presence for me. I did however like the fun sure it had problem but it was the first time we saw on screen how powerful superman is.

  14. OH FUCK YEAH! Man, I was worried!

Finding a new Superman after a film that nearly took 2 decades to get started was out a few years back is abso-fuckin’-lutely stupid (do I need to bring up “American Heroes”?)! Routh proved to fill the shoes of the Man of Steel, and replacing him because of the last movie’s flaws and not being an great hit is just not thinking straight. The Superman movie franchise has got some new life, the best thing to use is stuff that isn’t broke, which is Brandon Routh. Hell, at least Superman IV had Christopher Reeves, ant THAT is the only good thing I’ll say about that movie.

On a scale of “No, Go, or Routh”, I give this news a “ROUTH”! Replace him at your own risk of lowering expectations to the point of AVP, ZING!
