True To His Word – Doug Has Sex With Squash

Ok, today The Movie Blog sinks to a new low… but I don’t care… this was too funny not to post. As some of you may know, on an episode of “THe Movie Blog: Uncut” last week, Doug and I made a bet. I guaranteed Wild Hogs would come in at #1 at the boxoffice LAST weekend… and Doug swore it wouldn’t. He then went on to say that if Wild Hogs did indeed finish at #1… he would fuck a Squash. Ladies and gentlemen… he did it.

  1. Let me correct my above statement, 300 grossed $70 million USD on its opening weekend, making it the highest grossing March release EVER.

    CP24.com posted this article:

The ancient battle of Thermopylae was the subject of the first certified blockbuster or 2007, making the fight over the top spot at the box office not much a battle at all.

Bloody action tale “300” debuted with ticket sales of $70 million, which is about $233,000 for every one of the legendary 300 Spartan soldiers who fought off a much larger Persian force in the epic tilt.

“On a Spartan-by-Spartan basis, that’s a lot of money,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. “Summer came a little early, because this is a summer-style opening.”

All of the other top-10 movies combined didn’t draw as many people as “300” and if the estimates hold the film will break the record for the best March debut ever, topping the $68 million haul for “Ice Age: The Meltdown” last year.

“300” played in 3,103 theatres, about 850 fewer than the “Ice Age” sequel, making its box-office performance even more notable. It averaged $22,567 a theatre, a whopping number for a wide release.

The total for “300” also includes $3.4 million from 62 IMAX theatres, a record opening weekend for the large-screen format.

Because of those numbers business in Hollywood soared, and the top 12 movies totaled $139.4 million, up 49 per cent from the same weekend last year.

“300” also made short work of the previous weekend’s top film, “Wild Hogs,” which slipped to second place but held up well with $28 million in its second stint.

The sudden explosion of cash is undoubtedly a welcome change, since movie attendance had been lagging around one per cent behind last year after of a slump in January and February. Because of this weekend alone attendance now is up nearly two per cent.

“300,” is an adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel and stars Gerard Butler as Leonidas, king of the Greek city-state of Sparta, who leads his outnumbered men against Persian invaders.

“It’s a new-fashioned version of an epic movie. Great, old-fashioned storytelling with all the brilliant use of the technology available to us now,” said producer Mark Canton.

“The violence doesn’t bother anybody because it’s done in a way that’s not offensive,” added Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. head of distribution.

“People love the movie, they love the originality. The best thing you can have for a film is great word of mouth. When the public is selling the movie for you, that’s when you have a real success.”

Here’s the rest of the weekend’s top 10, with all figures estimated according to Media By Numbers LLC.

    1. “300,” $70 million.

    2. “Wild Hogs,” $28 million.

    3. “Bridge to Terabithia,” $6.9 million.

    4. “Ghost Rider,” $6.8 million.

    5. “Zodiac,” $6.77 million.

    6. “The Number 23,” $4.33 million.

    7. “Norbit,” $4.3 million.

    8. “Music and Lyrics,” $3.8 million.

    9. “Breach, $2.6 million.
