Curious George & Will Ferrell’s Future

ferrell_will.jpgWho is a Will Ferrell fan? It took me a while to warm up to this guy when I first watched him on SNL -back when SNL still had cast members-. I found him annoying, especially his bit as a cheerleader, that bothered the hell out of me. I later watched a comedy awards show were Farrell accepted an award for best new comedian or something and he thanked his lovely wife for all her support and for having a great ass. This I found hysterical. Such a simple statement which I felt portrayed the mans true personality. From that moment I became a fan of Will Ferrell.

Not only is Ferrell a keystone in the “Frat-Pack”, he continues to take on a plethora of roles in all types of film genres. Comedies are a given and to this day I think Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is one of the funniest cult type comedies since Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Ferrell has stretched his wings in films like Melinda and Melinda -I know it’s a comedy but much less in the silly nature- and The Producers -he sings-. Now with Curious George on it’s way, I’m sure most of us are aware that Ferrell is doing the voice of the Man with the yellow hat. Ferrell is no stranger to doing voice acting, but this piece has sent up a flag for me when it comes to Ferrell.

This guy is going to conitnue to take on a cornucopia of roles until one finally hits home. Now Curious George isn’t anything spectacular looking, it’s a 2D animated movie -which almost seems pointless nowadays- which I’m sure will have a few good laughs for everyone. But I think he will eventually get that role which will turn him into a Tom Hanks type of actor – I’m not saying he is the next Tom Hanks, so don’t bite my head of just yet.

Do you think all actors long for the perfecet dramatic role? Or can comedic actors like Ferrell be complete in their aspirations maintaining a successful funny man career?

Check out the trailer for Curious George and let us know what you think the future could bring for this jack of the trade.

  1. I just have to say I strongly disagree with your remark about 2D animation being pointless nowadays. It’s still going strong but CG is the big thing at the momment. Without 2D you’d have crappy 3D

  2. I became a fan of Will Ferrell since he was on SNL, in fact I LOVED his cheerleader character, it always had me laughing. (Sorry, Brad ;) )

I passed on Kicking and Screaming and Bewitched, but every actor has their bad choices.

Do I think he has potential to become somewhere in the likes of Tom Hanks, I’m not sure. I’ve actually asked myself this question before and it’s hard to judge since he’s only done comedies.

Melinda and Melinda is the closest performance he’s given to show us that there is a little something more to the constant silliness of Mr. Ferrell.

I’d like to see him try something different, but you have to wonder if he wants to or if possibly studios don’t feel they want to risk him in a different role.

Oh and I can’t wait for Curious George, I loved the books as a kid and by the trailer the movie looks true to the little mischievous monkey I loved.
