The Keroro Platoon Returns to the Big Screen
The Sgt. Frog franchise is preparing for a major comeback. A new trailer has been released for the upcoming feature film, Shin Gekijoban Keroro Gunsou: Fukkatsushite Sokkou Chikyu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu!, which translates to New Theatrical Movie Sgt. Frog: Upon Revival, Immediately Facing the Threat of Earth’s Destruction!. This project marks the first feature film for the series in 16 years and is scheduled to open in Japan on June 26.
The latest footage, titled the Revival in the Reiwa Era trailer, showcases the return of the Keroro Platoon. The video features a new version of the original opening theme, KERORO MARCH RETURNS, performed by singer ano and comedian Soshina.
Production and Franchise History
General director Yuichi Fukuda, known for his work on live-action adaptations like Gintama and Sakamoto Days, directed the film based on his own screenplay. He is joined by director Fumitoshi Oizaki and character designer Satoshi Koike, with animation production handled by BN Pictures. The film is based on the long-running manga by artist Mine Yoshizaki, which has been serialized in Kadokawa’s Monthly Shonen Ace magazine since 1999.
For fans looking to catch up on the series, all 357 episodes of the original anime adaptation are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll. The new film promises the largest-scale battle in the history of the franchise as the platoon faces bizarre phenomena erupting across the nation.
