Inside the New Beatles Drama Hamburg Days Cast and First Look

The six‑part series Hamburg Days begins filming in Hamburg, Munich and Liverpool. Rhys Mannion plays John Lennon. Ellis Murphy, a Liverpool singer‑songwriter, steps into Paul McCartney. Harvey Brett appears as George Harrison. Louis Landau portrays Stu Sutcliffe. Patrick Gilmore takes on Pete Best. Luna Jordan joins as photographer Astrid Kirchherr. Production Details

Showrunner Christian Schwochow leads the project. He previously worked on The Crown and Munich – The Edge of War. Head writer Jamie Carragher, known for Succession, adapts the story. The series draws inspiration from Klaus Voormann’s autobiography.

Creative Team

Music supervisor David Holmes curates the soundtrack. He brings experience from Killing Eve and the Ocean’s franchise. Director of photography Frank Lamm, who shot Andor and The Crown, captures the gritty clubs of 1960s Hamburg. Laura Lackmann co‑directs alongside Schwochow. Executive producers include Benjamin Benedict, Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann, Andrew Eaton and Justin Thomson. Producers Isabel Haug and Katharina Haase manage daily operations.

Story Premise

Hamburg Days transports viewers to the smoky clubs of St. Pauli, Hamburg’s red‑light district. A young rock band from Liverpool arrives with little experience. They meet artists Klaus Voormann and Astrid Kirchherr. Together they spark a transformation that turns the teenagers into the world’s biggest music phenomenon.

Distribution and Funding

The BBC has acquired Hamburg Days for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. German broadcaster ZDF co‑finances the series with AGC Television. Production companies W&B Television and Turbine Studios handle the shoot. The German Motion Picture Fund, MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig‑Holstein, FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg provide financial support. AGC International manages worldwide sales outside the U.K. and Germany.

Fans of The Beatles can look forward to an authentic look at the band’s early years. The series promises drama, music and visual style that reflects the era.
