Apple Original Films has officially unveiled the trailer for the upcoming action feature Matchbox The Movie, which made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H. The film is set to premiere globally on Apple TV on October 9, 2026.
Inspired by the iconic Mattel toys, the story follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are turned upside down when their long-absent former leader, an undercover CIA agent named Sean, returns to their small town. His arrival unwittingly pulls them into a frantic international pursuit to save the world.
The project is directed and executive produced by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall. The film features an ensemble cast led by John Cena, alongside Jessica Biel, Arturo Castro, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Danai Gurira, Golshifteh Farahani, Corey Stoll, and Bill Camp.
A High-Stakes Action Adventure
The announcement of the trailer provides fans with their first look at the globetrotting adventure. By leaning into the nostalgia of the classic toy brand while framing it as a high-stakes espionage thriller, the film aims to carve out a unique space in the action genre.
