DC’s Clayface Official Trailer Reveals a Dark Horror Origin Story

The first look at the upcoming horror-thriller Clayface has officially arrived. Warner Bros. Pictures released the trailer today, offering a glimpse into the tragic and terrifying origin story of one of Gotham City’s most complex villains.

Directed by James Watkins, the film explores the life of Matt Hagen, a street kid turned Hollywood leading man whose life is shattered by a brutal disfigurement. Seeking a miracle cure, Hagen undergoes a cutting-edge treatment that restores his appearance but fractures his sanity, leading him down a dark path of vengeance. The film stars Tom Rhys Harries in the title role, alongside Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan.

This project marks a distinct shift in tone for DC Studios, leaning heavily into the horror genre to tell a character-driven story. By focusing on the psychological toll of Hagen’s transformation, the film promises to be a grounded, albeit gruesome, addition to the Gotham rogues gallery. It is a bold move to frame a classic comic book antagonist through the lens of a psychological thriller, and fans of the character will likely appreciate the darker, more visceral approach to his origins.

Production and Release Details

The screenplay for the film was written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, based on a story by Flanagan. The production features a heavy-hitting team of producers, including Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn, and Peter Safran. The film is set to hit theaters in North America on October 23, 2026, with international rollouts beginning on October 21.
