The mystery of the island is coming to a head as the Widow’s Bay season finale premieres globally this Wednesday, June 17, on Apple TV. The 10-episode series, which blends horror with character-driven comedy, wraps up its inaugural run this week.
A Small Town With Big Problems
The series follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Matthew Rhys, as he attempts to revitalize his struggling island community. Despite the lack of modern infrastructure and the skepticism of locals who fear the island is cursed, Loftis pushes forward with plans to turn the area into a tourist destination. While he succeeds in bringing visitors to the island, his efforts inadvertently trigger the return of ancient, terrifying stories that the residents once dismissed as folklore.
Behind the Scenes
Created by Katie Dippold, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer, the series features a notable creative team. Emmy Award-winning director Hiro Murai executive produces through his banner, Chum Films, and directed five episodes of the season. The directorial lineup also includes Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.
Alongside Rhys, the ensemble cast includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey. The supporting cast features K Callan and Jeff Hiller.
