Following the continued success of his hit series Tracker, Justin Hartley is expanding his television portfolio. The actor and producer is now developing a new crime drama for ABC based on the 2024 novel A Forgotten Kill by Isabella Maldonado.
Hartley is set to produce the project through his Change Up Productions banner under his existing deal with 20th Television. The adaptation brings together a veteran creative team, with Diana Son attached to write and executive produce. Additionally, Ken Olin is on board to serve as an executive producer and director, while author Isabella Maldonado will also join as an executive producer.
Bringing A Forgotten Kill to Television
The source material follows FBI agent Dani Vega, a former Army Ranger known for her ability to solve complex cases. In the story, she partners with NYPD detective Mark Flint. While the two investigators have contrasting styles, they must work together to navigate difficult cases while managing their own personal tensions. The narrative also explores Dani’s struggle with a significant family secret.
The author brings unique experience to the project, having served over two decades in law enforcement. Maldonado made history as the first Latina captain in her department and held various roles including hostage negotiator and precinct commander. This background provides a layer of professional authenticity to the source material.
Expanding a Busy Career
This development news comes as Hartley remains a prominent face on network television. His current series, Tracker, continues to perform well in ratings. Before his turn as Colter Shaw, Hartley gained widespread recognition for his role in the long-running drama This Is Us.
By moving into the producer role for this new ABC project, Hartley is clearly looking to build on his momentum in the industry. While the show is still in the early stages of development, the combination of a bestselling crime novel and an experienced creative team suggests a strong foundation for the network’s future lineup.
