Acclaimed horror director Jordan Peele turned down an opportunity to appear in Scary Movie 6, the latest entry in the two-decade-old horror-comedy parody franchise. The film, which opened this week, features a spoof of Peele’s 2017 hit Get Out but ultimately did not include the director in its cast.
Why Did Jordan Peele Decline the Role?
According to Marlon Wayans, the film’s star and producer, he approached Peele about a potential role, informing him that Scary Movie 6 would parody Get Out. Peele responded positively to the idea but ultimately declined to participate. Wayans shared the anecdote with The Hollywood Reporter, noting the director’s humorous reaction to the offer.
Scary Movie 6’s Parody Strategy
While Peele did not appear in the film, Scary Movie 6 still includes a direct parody of Get Out, including a nod to the iconic Sunken Place scene. The film also spoofs other recent horror titles like M3GAN, Scream, and Weapons of Mass Destruction. Director Michael Tiddes highlighted the film’s unique approach, calling it the first to parody movies while they were still in theaters.
What’s Next for the Franchise?
Wayans has already teased Scary Movie 7, hinting at parodies of The Backrooms and Obsession. The sixth film also features returning cast members like Shawn Wayans, Jon Abrahams, and Dave Sheridan.
