Disney+ Greenlights New Animated Fantasy Series Journey

Disney+ has officially greenlit Journey, a new original animated series currently in production. The project is a collaboration between Disney Kids and Family and Higher Ground, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama.

A New Musical Adventure

The story follows a young heroine who ventures beyond the walls of her city after the energy shield protecting her home begins to fail. During her quest, she discovers the truth behind her father’s disappearance and unlocks a powerful magic within herself. The series is described as a music-driven fantasy adventure.

Creative Team and Production

The series is created by Matt Munn, who serves as an executive producer alongside Steve Loter. Jessie Dicovitsky is also on board as an executive producer for Higher Ground. The animation is being produced by ICON Creative Studio in association with Disney Television Animation.

Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids and Family, noted that the series focuses on themes of resilience and self-discovery. The project joins a growing slate of animated content on the platform, including titles like Bluey and Big City Greens. By blending music with an epic fantasy narrative, the studio aims to continue its tradition of family-oriented storytelling.

Higher Ground continues to expand its portfolio of family-focused projects, having previously produced series such as Waffles + Mochi and Ada Twist, Scientist. Further details regarding the release window for the series have not yet been announced.
