Sony Pictures is officially moving forward with 24 Jump Street, the next installment in the comedy franchise that began with 2012’s 21 Jump Street and 2014’s 22 Jump Street. While the studio has confirmed the project is in the works, no specific plot details have been revealed at this time. It also remains unclear why the production decided to skip the number 23 for the title.
Reports indicate that Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube are currently in talks to return for the film. If deals are finalized, they will reprise their respective roles as Morton Schmidt, Greg Jenko, and Captain Dickson. The original films, which were based on the 1987 FOX television series, followed the officers as they went undercover to infiltrate various criminal rings.
Behind the Scenes
Rodney Rothman is set to direct the upcoming sequel. He also penned the script alongside Hill and Meghan Malloy. Rothman previously contributed to the screenplay for 22 Jump Street, working alongside Michael Bacall and Oren Uziel.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed the first two entries in the series, are returning to the project as producers. They will be joined by a production team that includes Neal H. Moritz, Hill, Tatum, and Matt Dines. Fans of the series have long awaited news regarding a potential follow-up, and this development marks a significant step forward for the franchise.
