Mattel has officially confirmed a Masters of the Universe animated reboot will launch on June 10, streaming exclusively on YouTube. The move is part of a multiyear roadmap that aims to revitalize the classic franchise for a new generation.
The series, titled Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia, will consist of 20 short episodes. Writer‑director Matthew Brown revealed the launch date on his LinkedIn profile, noting the project has been in development for the past six months.
While Travis Knight prepares his live‑action film to bring He‑Man back to theaters, Mattel is using the animated series to keep the brand active across platforms. Senior Vice President of Entertainment Partnerships Nick Karamanos said the strategy focuses on “the totality of the property and how we keep it going for kids.”
Connecting to the Franchise’s Past
Mattel’s plan also leans on nostalgia. Kevin Smith’s recent Netflix projects helped keep the brand visible from 2021 to 2024, and Karamanos predicts the original 1980s series will see renewed interest once the new content rolls out.
Why It Matters
The timing aligns with a broader industry trend of reviving classic toys as multimedia franchises. By launching the animated series ahead of the movie, Mattel hopes to build momentum and create a unified brand experience that can sustain future films, games, and merchandise.
Fans of He‑Man now have a fresh entry point into Eternia while the live‑action movie remains on the horizon, promising a busy season for the iconic hero.
